The Substance

Postby Netherrealmer » 22 Oct 2024, 19:15

Damn this movie is horrifying but they said it might win Demi Moore an Oscar.
On this movie she plays the role of Elizabeth, an iconic television aerobics instruction on tv. She use to be a big Hollywood star but yeah that Aerobics tv show is the only one she have left.

On her 50th birthday, Her boss fired her because he thinks she is a grandma now. He wants to replace her with a younger Aerobics instructor.

One day someone offers her a subscription called "The substance" it has instructions. She will inject the starter and it will split her body into 2. Her current body and a Young beautiful one. every 6 days, her consciousness will switch between the 2 bodies. She named her 2nd body Sue.

Every 6 days, she must switch bodies between Sue and Elizabeth. She must not overstay on one body or there will be horrifying circumstances if she dont follow the instructions.

Sounds like an interesting movie. But did her boss not know about Jane Fonda?

Yeah. Jane Fonda doesn't appeal to the TikTok generation. :D I heard that she and J-Lo couldn't even get along when they were making that movie "Monster-in-Law". These are two females with alpha male egos. Can you imagine what went on behind the scenes?

If you have ever seen the movie, there is a scene where Jane Fonda finds out her future daughter-in-law, J-Lo, has a nut allergy and she crushes up nuts and puts it in her food. I can imagine if J-Lo had an allergy in real life, Jane Fonda might have entertained the thought of doing that. LOL.

I watched some of the trailer, it looks pretty crazy! Apparently it's a bit gory, which I can believe. I'm not game to look it up yet though.

It's a unique concept that combines horror with themes of identity and aging.

If you guys are offered the substance will you accept it?

You will have 2 bodies, An old one and a young one. You can live forever if you follow maintenance rules.

1. 6 days of your life Your consciousness is in Your Young body and 6 days of your life you will live in your old body. You are not allowed to overstay in one body. You cannot wake up a sleeping body early or you will decay. You have to switch every 6 days. Switch body in 7th day.

2. Your food as your young self is a fluid from your old sleeping body, Your food for your old self is a fluid from your sleeping .

Fail the maintenance schedule and you will melt.

The protagonist of this movie fails because she is a celebrity with a daily tv show.

to make it more creepy, Your beautiful young body will be born out of your spinal chord. So a doctor must be around to stitch your old body back.

The Substance film presents an interesting take on humanity's unparalleled imagination.
I do not think this movie is horrifying. Just fun.

The good thing is that you have a body. I've watched movies where people upload their consciousness or their thoughts or memories. I don't like the idea of that.

But, on the off chance that uploading your thoughts and memories works, if I'm around when Elon Musk uploads his, I'm gonna pull the plug on the machine.

That JERK TRIED TO RUINED CHRISTMAS!!

That's right! I'm a mean and angry Christian lady!

I will choose mind upload immortality over a high maintenance 2 body system the substance have though.

This is what happens if you fail the body switching schedule:

One of my students recently recommended this movie to me! My husband also watched it but had mixed feelings about it. He said it got off to a great start but fell apart in the middle. Oh dear.

Demi Moore delivered spectacularly on this movie. I won't be surprised if she gets an Oscars nomination for best female actress. And I love the movie's theme on the pressures that people have to go through with beauty standars.

Demi Moore has never been my favorite actress, but that doesn't mean I didn't think she could act. She can hold her own with the best.

Demi Moore faces tough competition for the upcoming Oscars for Best Actress. First is Cynthia Erivo, whose performance in Wicked has received widespread acclaim. She managed to make the Wicked Witch of the West incredibly likable, bringing a fresh and unique take to the character. Cynthia performed her own stunts, endured hours of green makeup, and delivered powerful vocal performances while acting. Another strong contender is Pamela Anderson, whose role in The Last Showgirl was a revelation. Many were surprised by her ability to showcase her acting talent after being typecast as a bombshell for much of her career. Angelina Jolie is also in the spotlight for her role as Maria, a soprano, in which she learned to sing opera despite having no prior singing background. Lastly, Mikey Madison, a newcomer, is gaining recognition for her performance in Anora, which has already earned her several minor awards.

I think, for the past few years, all of the actresses have faced tough competition. But they must realize there can only be one winner. Just because you're not the winner doesn't mean you aren't just as good as the others. But don't be a spoiled sport if you don't win.

I admired Angela Bassett and Meryl Streep. But the year Angela Bassett was nominated for her role in “Black Panther”, Jaimie Lee Curtis won for “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once”.

Angela Bassett wouldn't even clap and you could see, not disappointment, but anger on her face. I thought her reaction was childish and immature. And she better not try the "race card" and say she wasn't picked because she was black because I can counter that.

Do you know how many times Meryl Streep has been nominated and never won?

You can't tell me that Meryl Streep and Angela Angela Bassett are not both stellar performers, worthy of praise. But Meryl Streep never showed a sour face and reacted like that. She was always gracious to the winner.
