It's always interesting when a non-lead band member steps up to the mic! There have been some memorable moments, like when Keith Richards took the lead on "Happy" by The Rolling Stones. These instances often bring a fresh perspective and showcase the diverse talents within the band.

Me too! It does not happen often. But usually, if the non-lead singer takes the lead, it's fine by me. I figure most of the people in the group probably can sing too. It's just that they play instruments.
It's kind of like the actors who are also artists. Most people don't know thee celebrities paint or sculpt or whatever. The late Michael Jackson's artwork is pretty amazing.

What makes a good band is the ability of the backup singers to once in a while step up and take the lead. That shows that the band is built to be versatile.

Agree. That's why some bands and groups fall apart when the lead singer goes SOLO. They were riding on the wings of the lead vocalist.

I belong to a band now. And my director makes it a point of duty that anyone that has the desire to lead would have some chance. We have the regular pro lead vocalists. But if you desire to lead, a platform would be created for you to try and see how you grow from there.

When a band member who is not the usual lead singer takes on lead vocals, it can bring a fresh and unique dynamic to the group's sound. This is sometimes done to showcase the diverse talents within the band or to give the main lead singer a break. It can also add variety to their live performances and recordings.

Sometimes, it can even happen spontaneously. The music gets so engrossed into the backup and they don't even know when they are taking the lead in the song. But it is a beautiful thing.

Yeah. It is admirable when backup singers in a band show that they are well-versed with an entire performance. A wakeup call for managers and producers to embrace inclusivity.

Everyone on the crew is actually supposed to know the whole song just in case anything happens.

A music band that does not embrace the current technology is doing itself a huge disservice. At the minimum, bands should adopt 5he practice of streaming their performances online.

Julie Ragins was a backup for years with the Moody Blues. And she did the entire lead role for a concert once and that's when people started appreciating what a good lead singer she was.
