Wicked For Good Makes Noise

Postby germainebull » 24 Nov 2025, 13:27

The last weekend has been a big one for movie fans. People had one mission: to catch Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in Wicked For Good. This is the sequel to the 2024 blockbuster and the hype was everywhere. Talk shows were decked out in pink and green, Fallon invited both stars, and the media was full of their appearances.

The premiere was held on November 21 and the box office was a mess. The US alone has brought in $150 million and worldwide $226 million in its first weekend. Fans have been coming back three or four times and are still shouting online saying the movie is on fire. This Oz vibe has made people feel like they have entered a whole new world.

Wicked's history is also long. It started as a novel in 1995, was turned into a musical in 2003, and became one of the longest running shows on Broadway. 2024 Part One came out and left a strong cliffhanger. Now Part Two has arrived and the fanbase has gone crazy. Ariana and Cynthia have taken the franchise to a new level and fans say they have been changed for good.

Wicked For Good has become a movement now. It is clear that this franchise is not going to die down anytime soon. Fans keep coming back and the hype is still high. It is a true success and shows the power of music and cinema when combined well.

I watched the movie and they never showed the face of Dorothy. I guess because they want people to imagine Dorothy with the actress that they prefer since multiple actresses had played Dorothy. So they decided not to show Dorothy's face.

I guess this is an effective strategy to appeal to people with divergent perspectives. Each user has to conceptualize their customized Dorothy.

There have been many actresses who’ve played Dorothy. Of course, Judy Garland remains the most iconic. Even though her film is from the 1930s, kids today still watch her version. People who grew up in the 1970s know Diana Ross’s version from The Wiz, The Wiz—a Black reinterpretation of The Wizard of Oz—originally had younger actresses in mind, but Ross pushed to take the role by investing in the project. As far as I know, Fairuza Balk is the only actress who actually played Dorothy as a child.

The Diana Ross version really confused me the most because she's a 30-year-old actress trying to play Dorothy and Dorothy is supposed to be nine years old. Judy Garland was 15 years old when she played Dorothy, but they put binders on her breasts to make her look like a... child. Fairuza is probably the only on-screen Dorothy who is actually a child.

My kids were watching this but became disinterested as they are not used to Western Musicals.
They would even had become disinterested in a Bollywood movie with too many songs.
But now I know that this movie has a big interest base.

Explaining Wicked for you, the first Wicked movie is prequel of The Wizard of Oz, while this second Wicked movie happened, it are the events of The Wizard of Oz but to the perspective of the Wicked Witch Elphaba and the Good Witch Glinda. So, you will never see Dorothy's face here, but you will feel her presence.

I saw Wicked For Good earlier in the week and really enjoyed it. It's good to understand some of the things that happened in The Wizard of Oz.

It seems your children are not used to the musical style where songs are a big part of the story. This is very common because Western musicals often have many singing and dancing scenes which to someone who is not used to it can seem long or repetitive. Even in Bollywood there are people who get tired of seeing many songs in a movie. But it is true that musicals like Wicked have a very large fanbase around the world because many people love the combination of drama and music. This interest base shows how this genre has had a huge impact on culture and entertainment.
