Songs you didn't realize that is about sex

Postby Netherrealmer » 25 Jan 2026, 06:55

A lot of these songs sounds wholesome and innocent, and probably many of you sang these songs when you were kids. But, you know, now that my understanding of English just improved, I just realized these songs are about sex.

2 become 1

During the prime of Spice Girls, they were very popular to children, especially to little girls. They see the Spice Girls as their role models because, you know, a lot of their songs are actually family-friendly, but they have a song that is filled with innuendos, but really literal. I'll start with To Become One. To Become One sounds like a romantic ballad, very slow, very... And they look wholesome in the music video. They wear decent clothes. Well, Scary Spice looks sexy, but they look wholesome in this music video. They're just standing in the streets of London, I think. But the song lyrics, if you listen to the lyrics carefully, it's about a girl telling her boyfriend to have sex with her, but they must use condoms and be smart about it.

Its all comes back to me now

Celine Dion is one of those singers who is known for a wholesome image. You know, she's popular to everyone's moms. If you are a millennial or a Gen Z, your mom probably loves Celine Dion because Celine Dion is a singer who proves that she doesn't need to sexualize herself to be successful. But this song of hers, It's All Come Back to Me Now, is actually a cover of a girl group named Pandora's Box, but the song is actually about a woman who is widowed, and she is missing her husband. And the lyrics alone indicate that she is craving her dead husband. The lyrics says, When you kiss me like this, when you touch me like that, it's been a long time ago, but it all comes back to me now. Basically, she missed having sex with her husband, but her husband is dead and she never remarried.

Barbie girl

Back in the 90s, the company Mattel sued the band Aqua for making the song Barbie Girl, and I heard that during the 90s, this song was very popular to children's parties. But if you will listen to the lyrics of this song, the playtime Barbie wants to do with Ken is not family-friendly. She wants Ken to brush her hair and undress her everywhere. So when Ken says, come on Barbie, let's go party, they're not talking about a literal party. No wonder they got sued by Mattel back then because, you know, Barbie is a toy for children.

Loving You

The song Loving You is a collaboration between Minnie Ripperton and her husband. If you will watch the music video, the bearded guy playing the guitar is her husband, and the lyrics directly talks about her husband. She talks about loving her husband is easy because he's beautiful and that she loves making and making love with him is all she wants to do. And then at the end of the song, she say, Maya, Maya, Maya, Maya, which is the name of their daughter. Basically, the song is indicating that because her husband, she got pregnant with her daughter Maya. Maya is an actress in SNL now, and she always get reminded that, you know, that song is about her parents having sex.

Do you know any wholesome-sounding songs that are secretly sexual, if you will listen or read the lyrics? Back then when songs are sexual, they are more subtle about it, but these days, it's not subtle anymore, it's more obvious.

There are many songs which kids and teenagers get crazy about.
When one hears them carefully, the meaning is not as simple as it seems and there are hints about sex.
And there have been some similar songs in Bollywood as well.

Yes, the sensibilities have changed.
Many have a different definition of openness.

Well, those three brothers are conservative Christians, so conservative that they got married to the same women the last few decades and they have like 20 children each. So I doubt there's something sexual about that song. They said that it means for a moment of time, like people come and go in your life. That's what they said. So there's nothing sexual about it.Also, they were like children when they wrote it. I mean, Taylor haven't hit the puberty stick back then that people thought that he is a girl because he have long hair.

Today's artists have lost their way by suggesting shameful things in their songs. In the past, art was respectful and had sweet mysteries. Nowadays, everything is too obvious and offends the morals of our society.

Many popular songs contain hidden sexual references disguised in metaphors. Listeners often miss these innuendos, interpreting lyrics innocently, while artists use subtlety to convey adult themes without explicit censorship in mainstream music culture.

Most of the musicians out there today really don't have anything to write about besides sex, drugs and money sadly.
