I don't know if the question is that it is acceptable even though it appears to have been intentional in this case. It is nice to have the folks around as you enter adulthood, but it is not really a necessity. It is usually more of a surprise to discover you still have ammunition in the gun when you take a shot at that age.
One of my high school classmates seemed to be growing up in his grandparents' home. However, over time, we learned that his own dad was 75, and his mother was 56 when he was born. Turned out his oldest brother was the principal at our school and one of his nephews graduated two years before he did. He said his family considered him a whoops. His dad did stick around at least until he graduated from high school.
In another case, one of my classmates had a little brother who showed up 22 years later. His parents certainly did not expect that little fella to show up after their night of fun.
It just goes to show that older couples can still get it on years after you would think the system quit working. Just picture your own grandparents ... yup, they probably still get frisky from time to time too. That is what the line in a marriage ceremony is all about: "Til death do us part." Younger couples did not invent the process.
