40 years ago, one of the most popular means of communication was developed -emoticons.

We use them naturally to emphasize our tone and emotions.

They were created as a digital way of expressing irony. In the beginning, people did not really understand them, so they caused great debates.

The first smiley was created by combining a colon, a minus sign and brackets. No one could have predicted what kind of revolution would arise.

Today, emoticons increasingly shorten communication between users.

I didn't realize or known during it's hit times. Well it was such a fun form of communication.

On Reddit people disquss is thumb up emoji disturbing.
