Salary Transparency

Postby Fergal » 28 Oct 2022, 05:48

I don't think I would be comfortable putting my salary online for public view. However, some people are very happy to do that in the interest of transparency. Have a look at this page https://xeiaso.net/salary-transparency

This guy is happy to share his salary details. His salary is very high, certainly by Irish standards (or at least my standards :) ) It is interesting that he was "terminated" or had "contract not renewed" at a number of positions, but still maintains a high salary.

That (147150/ year) is high for my standards too and it is weird that he maintains the high salary despite his contract being terminated or not renewed. I wouldn't feel comfortable sharing those sort of information online.

Wow, the guy either got demoted or fired a lot of times! But it certainly doesn't seem to hurt his job prospects. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable sharing that type of information. This is something my husband and I disagree on. He doesn't see anything wrong with telling all and sundry about the size of our bak account

Do you actually share it online? If so where?

I found it interesting that the guy looked like a flake. Often earning six figures but seldom staying very long.

I could not post my salary because I seldom had one, since I owned the company and usually paid what I could afford at the time.

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

Do you know where he lives? I think when you see somebody salary you must compare it with live expenses in area where worker live.

With this salarys he would be king in Croatia. With my salary I could not cover expenses in Norway and probably Sweden. In Croatia, as single, I can afford most things.

Based on the LinkedIn profile it seems to be in Ontario Canada. I know I described him as male in my first post, however, now I am not so sure if this person is male or female.

When you like about it, do you claim to be earning less or more than you actually are?

I honestly do not like because it is a private thing. I usually do not reveal it offline. For online, I think it is fine because people close to me are not into earning sites virtually.

I don't mind revealing my salary to my friends in casual conversations. Not to brag (and it's not an amount high enough to be bragging about ), but it's an interesting topic. In the USA, you and a friend could be working two similiar jobs and be paid differently based on the company. When I share my salary with my friends, sometimes they'll share theirs and even ask me if I can refer them to my company because it's higher paying for the same work. It provides additional work opportunities that would otherwise go unnoticed.

I probably wouldn't share my salary online tough. Especially not if I'm using my real name.

I told few times people how much my salary is. But in that case I see how basic salary is. I have some extras but those depend from month to month so I don't calculate those. Also I don't include travel expenses since I spend it on travel.
