A Beginner's Guide to Mastodon (a Twitter-Alternative in Microblogging)

Postby friendociate » 16 Feb 2023, 21:07

I'm introduced to Mastodon by Buffer, and there Ms. Tamilore Oladipo gives beginners a high-level overview of the platform.

In that guide, she tells us that Mastodon LOOKS like Twitter, but is very different---'Mastodonians' can edit their 'posts' (tweets) long after first 'posted,' it's a "federated universe" ("fediverse") of servers ... yes, 'Mastodon' is the first server; but I think they all operate almost independently (like nations in the Commonwealth of Britain (or whatever they call it)).

Mastodon IS the first entry in most 'Twitter-alternative' lists; but media-sharers probably don't want to 'totally abandon' Twitter yet. But Twitter might be 'going the way of the MySpace dodo' sooner or later.... Though MASHABLE thinks that Mastodon will soon be extinct, because ...
  • There's a Lack of Unity (no single "Mastodon")
  • Tho Ms. Oladipo says they're called "posts" now, it's rumored that the original programmers wanted to call the 'tweets' there "Toots."
  • ... there's a few 'complaints' that it looks like they've fixed, but the major one is The Name---the word for the Large, Slow, Frozen, Thousand-of-Years' Dead Wooly Mammoth ...
"Mastodon," built on a wordroot that means "Breast Tooth" (because their Molars are crowned with Nipples). - also the wordroot of Mastodontic

I'm UncleJay there.

I think they should call their version of Tweets (what birds do), Trumpets (What Mastodons do), because they are more forceful.

Working on a New Side-Hustle

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.
