Word of the Day

Postby thisnthat » 31 Jul 2017, 18:00

This game is easy but informative. Just learn a new word today then share it and the definition in your own words. :D

Eponymous

It basically means being named after someone or when someone gives their name to a person or thing.

Oh, good one. I've never heard of that before.

Okay, here's mine:

Hypnagogia

This is the state your mind is in when you're between sleeping and being fully awake. Some say half asleep (or half awake).

Great word @sprite1950 I knew cows have more than one stomach but didn't know the name of one.

@thisnthat Nice I experience Hypnagogia a lot during the morning before I get up. Just didn't know what the term was for it. Most times, I can hear what is going on around me but I might also be in a sort of dream.

My word of the day is anoesis (an-o-ee-sis) which means a state of mind consisting of only pure sensation or emotion without any thought or cognitive content definition is from Dictionary.com

This happens to me when I eat a good piece of chocolate.

I found a crazy one:

Floccinaucinihilipilification (fläksəˌnôsəˌnīˌhiləˌpiləfiˈkāSHən)

It's a habit of describing things as unimportant or without much value

splenetic - contains elements of bad temper, malevolence, or spite

@Angie10 Good word I am glad that it is mythical though. I wouldn't want to run into either end.

@thisnthat That is a crazy one  I am not even going to try to pronounce it even with the phonetics. I wonder why it had to be such a long word.
