Your friend is telling you so you don't embarrass yourself in front of others. Not to make you feel bad but so you don't become a laughing stock in front of others.

I would never embarrass my friend or anyone in front of others.

They would be pulled aside and told privately.

The alternative would be to let the person remain oblivious that something was wrong and then find out no one had the courtesy to tell them.

To me, a friend, is someone that has your best interests in mind.

If I came out of the rest room and forgot to zip up my pants. I would much rather be discretely told than to be left alone to walk in front of strangers.

I sense this quote is not being translated to other languages correctly. It is meant as a help and comfort to the person who doesn't know what is gong on.

To be rude or embarrass someone at any time is not good.

I believe, respect is the foundation of a friendship. Telling mistake of a person should be done w/ a good manner.

I was told this is an African proverb. Heard it several years ago. A young minister was preaching a Sunday sermon and quoted it. He was reporting on his missionary efforts in Africa and was disheartened because he thought his evangelism work was not yielding any results. One of the locals he was working with quoted that proverb to him. In other words, the local was telling him to be patient and his work would eventually yield the fruit of his labors.

I think a proverb teaching patience holds true for all areas of life; not just people working in the mission field.
