Loving A Particular Food

Postby Spontaneo » 24 Jan 2022, 00:48

Do you just love, love, love a particular food? Your mother's cooking? Frugal cooking? Ethnic cooking?

I like all of the above!

Of course, I am partial to my mother Rose's cooking. Everything prepared homemade.

As for frugal, once out on my own, I learned real fast how to cook and shop for bargains.

As for ethnic, my mother Rose has always cooked ethnic food. Thus, I know now how to also.

Again, what food do you love? Maybe we can learn from you.

Quite a number of years ago, I lived in New Mexico. I enjoyed a mexican dish called Chile relleno. I ordered it almost every time I went to a Mexican restaurant. They made it with Hatch Green Chile, which comes exclusively from a small farm community named Hatch, NM. I did not realize it was a special product at that time.

I have since moved around the country and have found the same dish in other states but learned they had never heard of the Hatch variety and used a different chile. Wow, what a difference. None of them were ever as good.

I recently found a restaurant in a nearby community where I live now that makes the dish with Hatch Green Chile! I drive the hour each way for takeout at least once a month. I'm back in heaven with one of my favorite dishes.

I love most of the traditional dishes of my country. Especially my parents' cooking, of course - I can prepare most of the dishes they can, and I'm not a bad cook, but they just never turn out as great as theirs, sadly.

Apart from this, I absolutely love Italian cuisine, my favourite dish being spaghetti bolognese.

This would be more appropriate if posted as a new, separate topic. The response would not fit this topic.

As I live with 2 roommates, we need to agree on our groceries. Recently, I became disgusted as the 2 told me that I could only grab a 1/2 pound of lunch meat. One of my staples in the kitchen is a lunch meat sandwich.

The meat bologna is only $3.99 a pound.

So, I simply took upon myself buying with my own money instead of with our grocery money.

C'mon... We couldn't afford $3.99 with grocery money? Who is the frugal one here?

I love to save money. I have taken upon myself ways of taking care of my cravings!

We get tons of day-old bread given once a month and keep placed in the freezer for when we need the breads.

Instead of buying delivered pizza or frozen store-bought pizza, I have my own methods!

What types of breads do we get?

Loaves of bread
English muffins
Bagels

So, I prepare pizzas with all.

I simply place pepperoni, mushrooms and mozzarella on what you want each then place in the air fryer for 5 minutes on 400 degrees F.

Delicious!

As opposed to loving, I have found 2 sandwiches that I used to like but now to be yucky.

My tuna salad sandwiches and chicken salad sandwiches taste completely like raw meat. I even mix with plenty of mayonnaise.

What are the chances of both?

I love to have air fryer potatoes late at night for dinner! I prepare in wedges or pieces. Last night, I had some with Kraft Classic Catalina. Tastes delicious!

If I had to choose a favorite particular food, there is a food that I need to begin to rely on which is instant mashed potatoes with beef gravy. (due to dental appointments) I am needing a replacement of my air fryer potato wedges late at night for dinner.
