India’s Green Drive: Navigating Flex and Bio-Fuel Frontiers

Postby ptrikha21 » 01 May 2026, 15:14

The Indian government is aggressively accelerating the adoption of Flex Fuel and Bio-Fuels to slash crude oil imports and curb emissions.
Policy formulations are focusing on mandatory ethanol blending, with a target of 20% by 2025.
Unlike conventional engines, Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) run on various ethanol-gasoline blends, offering a versatile alternative for the automotive sector.
This shift leverages India’s agricultural surplus, converting sugarcane and food grains into energy.
Authorities are currently streamlining tax incentives to make these green technologies commercially viable for mass adoption.
Indian Government is also looking for inspiration to Brazil where such a policy is already in place.

With the increases in oil prices we have been seeing recently, it would be great to see an increase in the supply of biofuel. I'd certainly welcome more options and reduced costs for petrol and home heating oil.

So far, it seems that Brazil has some head start in using Bio Fuels.
May be they can help others in this respect.

I understand that adoption of biofu3els is tricky as significant greenhouse gases are emitted during the growing of the plants used to generate biofuels.
