Are fixed deposits still worth it?

Postby Decentlady » 01 Apr 2025, 18:49

The traditional thought of wealth increases wealth, still holds however, is fixed deposit in a bank the best and safest option? Although it gives some security compared to much volatile markets in say share market, but does it give us worthwhile returns considering the introduction of various taxes?

Where would you rather invest? What kind of fixed deposit do you prefer and why?

It's worth it depending on rates offered by banks. I wait for their promotions but there are other options as well so I prefer to diversify. Do note that fixed deposit will need you to lock up your funds for a long period of time for the best rates.

Fixed deposits as investment options are facing competition from mobile savings offerings, in my country. Less bureaucracy and more flexibility.

You can do the two if you have the money then. At least you would be making money while you sleep. The two are passive income

Those are risk free investments. You can also get loans pledging them.

Yes, if you want safety over high returns. Fixed deposits protect your money and pay guaranteed interest, which helps during shaky markets. The downside is rates often barely beat inflation, so your money grows slowly. They’re worth it for emergency funds or short term goals, not for building serious wealth long-term.

At this point in my life I would any day opt for safety over more money
