Re: Hubpages VS Vocal Media - which one would you choose?

Vocal.media wants 600 word articles. Is 600 word article a short article? Moreover, on both the sites 'adsense' is not mandatory, I think.

Adsense in hubpages is manadatory because their hubpages ad program is basically mix of adsense ads and amazon links. And they don't allow sharing of views anymore. So you are forced to use adsense on hubpages. And as for vocal, under 1000 words is short article in typical freelance standards.

You can. There is no stopping of that.

I was referring to sharing of views in context of your own adsense code on the hubpages.

It makes sense. I haven't created my Google Analytics account and I really don't understand what is it for. Do we need to have it to increase our earnings on the site?

You use google analytics code so that the views are recorded and you can check out the traffic. now a days I don't see much use of it.

Thank you, I really didn't know what was the use of google analytics, in this case I won't bother about it for now.

I have a couple friends who are doing well on hubpages and medium.
I do well on vocal media. So I will try all three to earn more money off my writing.
I mean it only seems logical to be in more than one site at a time.

I wish I could have medium. I am sure I'd literally earn good income from medium. It's pity I can't get paid through USD in stripe as of now. Otherwise I could have pushed for vocal and medium more. because membership earnings often surpass adsense if you get like 10 people subscribe to you monthly for say 15 dollar or more.

HUBPages is one of the few sites where I set it and forget it. Meaning that I have not been active on HP yet every 3 months I get $50. That's because most of my HUBs are featured which means they are indexed and can be found via a generic search and also because I manually share them. HP earns a lot from Google Ad Sense and they share that revenue. So I make money from my HP HUBs without even trying. You earn whether or not the person who visits your article is a HP member or not.

Medium, on the other hand? As far as I can tell you do not earn for external visitors. The people who earn are those who get their content curated by the Medium curators and uuhh ... good luck with that! I earn pennies from my Medium articles if you go by the earnings in my Medium Partner account. However, a lot of my content is republished from my blogs and my main purpose for using Medium is redirect traffic to my monetized blogs. That strategy seems to be working although I can not tell the exact amount of earnings from my blogs that can be attributed to traffic that came from Medium. Still! Because Medium articles are more easily found via the search engines, if a person likes my article they click through the original source link and end up at my blogs. My blogs may not be easily found via the search engines. But my republished content from my blogs can be found easily via search engine when people find the content on Medium and click through to visit my blogs and read similar content. My blogs are monetized with Google Ad Sense and Infolinks and various affiliate links.

RE: Vocal. media. A generous reader sent me a donation of $10 when I first started 8 months agp. But since then I have not earned from VM. I have 3 articles at the site and I am not tempted to become an active contributor because I suspect that I don't write about topics that could really earn me more money. In other words, I don't have enough knowledge in areas like gaming, etc. My 3 articles are about food and they are in the Feast community.

This is a very detailed review and comparison of the three sites - thank you so much for taking the time to clarify things for us. Out of all this, HubPages works best for me. There was a point where I was interested in Medium and Vocal but in the end I decided not to join either for very specific reasons. I remember one offers a payment processor that I can't use. If I had the time, I'd definitely join HubPages.

Hugpages sounds good. But I also heard that people earn more from their earning program.
Overall I think it is great they pay for outside views.

Medium is really messing up not countring outside views. They should.
But then again they probably don't have ads. But I heard if you write about politics they do feature
those and they get a lot of views. The only plus side of medium is that if you make only 50
cents one month they sent you that money no matter how low.

Vocal overall I must is my fav but hubpages might be 2nd.
The plus side of vocal is they pay for all outside views.
Plus they allow, horror, sexy, and even bikini models reviews.
But so far gaming and music gets me the most views.
of coure I am good at promoting and getting lots of views.

I think I might give hubpages and medium a try.
Medium should count outside views. If they did I would earn a lot on there.

I am already on vocal doing wel. I will join hugpages.

I remember when Tokens were given at arcades to play games.
Now sites give them to people to earn money. How times have changed.

@MysticMoons ~ I agree with your observations of these sites. I get that Medium is not ad-supported and gets its money from paid subscriptions. But it couldn't hurt for the owners rto explore other revenue-generating options.

Yes but vocal already pays more than most ad networks for views.
its 3.80 per 1000 views locked in. MOst other ad networks don't even come close.

Yes all sites have pros and cons. And it all depends of what styles you use to write
and also what topics you choose.

Yes. But this is what Medium says:
"We strongly believe that quality content needs to be paid for by consumers — not advertisers — so creators can do their best work, and to align the incentives of everyone involved." (Source: Medium Blog)

I think their "belief" is wrong. Nothing wrong with advertisers paying for a space on your article page. I would rent out a space to them if I could. Since Medium doesn't seem to want to switch over to the Pay-Per-View business model, I was hoping they would at least try the ads OR think of another way to generate additional revenue besides subscriptions, so they can pay the writers better. Anyway! Their Partner Program is only a few years old. At one time, they didn't pay writers at all and there was no comparison to be made. As time goes on maybe earnings for writers will improve. Who knows?
