One needs to know what exactly the objective to get PC. Is it for work, gaming , or a combination of both ?
Based on the usage, you can research online or get help from Computer salesperson to get some recommendations on suitable builds or setups with a budget in mind.

I first thought about what tasks I would primarily be using it for. I also look for things like, storage capacity, display quality, battery life, and portability.

Anyone that doesn't have basic computer knowledge in these times is not worthy to live at all.

That's a bizarre statement, there are many people who live happy and fulfilling lives without using a computer. I know at least one successful business person who doesn't use a computer - he has staff that do that for him.
