What would you automate?

Postby Fergal » 12 Apr 2025, 14:32

Tools that automate repetitive tasks are becoming more common and more efficient. With the addition of AI these tools are bcoming smarter and can automate even more complex tasks.

If you were given free use of an automation tool and you knew how to use it, what would you use it for?

Honestly, if I had access to a good automation tool a, I'd probably use it to handle all the boring, repetitive stuff—like organizing files, managing emails, or doing spreadsheet stuff by using AI to create templates . Just to free up time for the more human part of my work such as calling or joining meetings. Automating the little things really adds up to save time for other things.

It is an interesting question. I have been using standard spreadsheets to document all kinds of details since the early 1990s. I enjoy the work enough that it is even still a major hobby interest just to document details to study for statistical information. A big part of my enjoyment is to think of some question that can be answered by this data and then create a formula to automatically calculate an instantly current and correct answer to that question with every added detail. I have been automating my spreadsheets like that all along.

Using AI to figure out those formulas would take away the fun of even developing those documents. Even the spreadsheet document I use to maintain FC records already has multiple thousands of such automated formulas and I enjoy coming up with new questions and creating new formulas for the answers. AI might do it faster. I like to do it myself for the fun of it.

Some people like to just buy things that are already made. AI users fit that category. Some people like to build them for the fun of it. I fit that category. I don't like the idea of AI doing it for me.

Am part of the media team in church, when a church member has a birthday, we usually do flyers for them and post it 12 midnight on their birthday. I always find it pretty stressful to do it, especially staying up late till that 12 midnight. I would definitely like to automate it.

We have a web based Document sharing site on Sharepoint.
Recently, I had to upload a labyrinth of folders & subfolders where I had to manually copy and checkin on sharepoint.
It was annoyingly tedious process.
Some day, I would like to use some AI or Automation tool for such a purpose, and without going into deep learning for some Programming or Scripting language.

I’d like to automate my social media posts. Scheduling content can be such a drag, so having a tool that does it for me would save me a lot of time.

I believe that some such tools could be already available.
Or if one is AI tech savvy, one can write an AI Agent to do so.
I could also try using such a tool for my twitter account.

I would automate the creation and publishing of contents for my websites. But with AI content which is of low quality, I don't think I will do so.
