Meta’s Billion-Dollar Bet on Agentic Intelligence

Postby ptrikha21 » 17 Jan 2026, 12:08

Meta has officially acquired the high-profile AI startup "Manus", solidifying Mark Zuckerberg’s aggressive push into autonomous software.
Valued at over USD 2 Billion, the deal brings one of the most capable "general-purpose AI agents" under Meta’s roof.

Unlike standard chatbots that merely respond to text, Manus is an AI Agentic suite that executes complex, multi-step tasks like coding and market research independently.
While the acquisition faces potential regulatory scrutiny in China due to the startup’s origins, Meta intends to scale these "action engines" across its global platforms.

To add: Yours truly has used Manus. One problem is that Free account has limited credits and credits get used fast.
Paid options need a good enough monthly contribution.

Based on news from Hindustan Times a few days back.

I hate AI agents. They will never stop your problems, all they will do is to copy-paste you the link.To make it worse, a lot of them speaks in geek and nerd instead of English.

Specific use Agents - for PPT slides, Excel work or some kind of Analysis to be written on pdf are fine.
For coding, they are a work in progress but evolving.
Good for content writing as of now.

Meta’s announced acquisition of Manus is a big signal of how seriously the company is moving into AI. Manus is positioned as a developer of “general-purpose AI agents,” meaning software designed to handle a wider range of tasks than narrow, single-task applications. By bringing Manus under its umbrella, Meta isn’t just buying technology — it’s buying talent, intellectual property, and credibility in the AI space.

The $2 billion-plus valuation shows how highly the market values Manus’ capabilities. For Meta, it fits in with Mark Zuckerberg’s broader strategy of embedding autonomous software into its platforms, from social media control to new productivity tools and perhaps even metaverse applications.

Manus promises more "heavy duty" work like processing multiple docs, content generation from prompts and may be some kind of IT application related works.
Problem is Manus has a credit system which burn fast. Paid versions are quite expensive.
But may be under Meta, it could become more affordable.

I see you are referring to Manus and its challenges. Manus is positioned as a “heavy duty” tool for tasks like processing multiple documents at once, creating content from prompts, and even IT tasks. However, the credits system burns through quickly and if you want the paid version, the cost goes up. This makes people wonder if it is suitable for long-term use or is it only good for quick tasks. One way to handle it is to use it for selected tasks only and avoid running unnecessary processes. You can also compare it with other tools that offer unlimited access without a credit system to see if they are more suitable for your budget.

I again used Manus for a context specific PPT generation.
While not bad, I think it would need more prompt inputs for generating something that I would like.
