Would you trust a fully self-driving car

Postby sweerie_banana » 20 Mar 2026, 11:10

Companies like Tesla are pushing hard into self-driving technology, but I’m curious—would you actually feel safe sitting in a car with no human control at all? It sounds convenient, especially for long trips or traffic, but giving up that level of control is a big mental shift. Do you think we’re ready for it, or is there still a trust gap?

This is such a dangerous behavior, do you think so?

If self-driving cars are programmed to memorize the map of your country, maybe I can trust them, but if you are from a country where self-driving cars are still not normal, you should not buy a self-driving car.

I don't think i can trust these self driving cars though especially knowing the kind of roads and drivers that are in my country.

Hard to say. In a way, getting into a self-driving car can be safer than getting into a random taxi, especially for women (and especially if they live in an area that's not safe). Many countries like China already have self-driving taxis and they seem to be a success.

On the other hand, if self-driving cars are not carefully programmed and mapped, it can cause an issue. There's always some issues with Waymo in San Francisco. Either they're stuck and blocking traffic, or they're being broken into.

So I guess it really dependents on different factors. I would trust and maybe even prefer a self-driving car, if it's been mapped and tested for safety.

You have a point there, but like you said, it mainly depends on several factors at the end of the day.

Just this month, more than 100 self-driving cars stopped suddenly, mid-traffic in Wuhan, China. This tech needs a lot of growing up.

I would not trust unless it is a very empty stretch of a Desert where normal driving would be very tricky.
Or other areas with low human population.

Could be a lot of errors in coding driving programs

To be honest, I'd be nervous to be in self-driving car. The same goes for a self-piloted plane. I'd find myself wondering what would happen if there was a mechanical fault and it jammed. Imagine that happening mid-air
