OpenAI Pivot towards Enterprise Users

Postby ptrikha21 » 18 Apr 2026, 17:32

OpenAI has decisively shifted its focus toward the lucrative enterprise market, aiming for business clients to contribute half of its revenue by the end of 2026. CFO Sarah Friar notes that while consumer growth remains vast, the high cost of free users necessitates a "winnowing down" of side projects—like the Sora video app—to prioritize professional tools. By launching high-value models for "professional work" and expanding its workforce to 8,000, OpenAI intends to outpace rivals like Anthropic in providing robust, secure workplace AI.

I have a paid ChatGPT plan, it is approximately $20 per month. I feel it is worth the money and hope the subscription cost will not increase in the future.

There are also tokens available on Openrouter for many APIs related to AI tools.
I would like to have a Claude subscription for coding if need arises.
I think I did bought an Open AI subscription that was India specific for 5 USD or so per month.
However, I often use Perplexity and Notebook LM for many things.

There is going to be impacts in shorter term.
Re-skilling and Up-Skilling sound easy, but they are not that easy in reality.
