My rule of thumb when it comes to measurement is the photograph. One picture with a good resolution is approximately 1 mb. So 1 gb of storage can fit 1,000 photos.

It is exactly 1025mb but we can't use all of them if you try to use 1gb pen drive or SD card. Because some the memories are used by memory itself to store some internal system files. This is what I know but may be slightly wrong with exact definition.
