Why does my Mouse seems to have a life of its own?

Postby grecy0905 » 09 Mar 2017, 14:59

My mouse is acting weird. I used to opening a new tab for new sites but when I get back to the old tab or the original one, the new tab will close itself. Then I have to reopen it as a new tab and when I get back to the old tab, it will close itself again. It also hover down on its own. It is moving left to right when I am holding it. It seems it is fast in closing the new tabs that leaves me irritated.

I am searching on what to do on Google but I don't understand some are explaining. My mouse is optical one, plug in usb. I always clean it before using so I am not sure if it is just dirty.

I checked for the virus presence in my laptop but I have zero now. I even cleared the cache all the time. I don't know what to do now.

If you clean it and have no virus that may be causing that, try to use another, borrow from a friend just to try and check if it is a mouse problem or not.

Try different USB port. When my mouse doesn't function properly, I change the USB port. Otherwise, try the mouse on another PC or laptop. If same problem, that is the mouse problem

Oh my! I just hope this strange phenomenon is not a sign of virus infestation.
You might want to run a complete virus scan to rule this possibility out.

Your post screams a virus, unfortunately. Please diagnose your computer and do the necessary.

I think this is the last resort.

I don't have other mouse with me, but surely I will borrow from a friend.

I will try that one, but how to do that change the USB port, or I will plug it to another port in the laptop?

My first thought was a virus too. How many tabs are you running and what browser do you use? My Firefox slows down with too many tabs and the mouse lags sometimes but never does weird stuff like closing tabs and things. I have found shutting down the browser and re-opening with less tabs has helped.

Have you tried a different browser? Yes I have to clean the bottom of mine too as sometimes the mouse goes wonky with it being USB/Optical. And do you have another PC to test the mouse out on? I am not sure what operating system you are running but if you are using Windows. Have you gone into the control panel to check the mouse there? For example in Windows 10 you can find this by going to control panel home and then picking "Hardware and sound" then choose the "Mouse" option. You could check options there and try the "Hardware" tab and see about updating the driver.

It may and may not help and maybe you have done this already but figured I would mention.

Oh and yes if you got another free port try plugging the mouse into a different port.

The mouse is not long lasting nowadays, especially those optical one. The branded one is extremely expensive.
Thus, I opt for those low price range, just replace with a new one if there is any problem. It costs about USD4-5 here for a affordable one.

I've just had a problem with my mouse. It wouldn't wake up my computer and it was acting a bit strangely. The cursor would disappear sometimes or I couldn't get it to click in the right place but other times it would be fine. Then I couldn't wake up my computer but because I don't know a lot about technical stuff I didn't realise it was a mouse problem :?

I replaced the mouse and hey presto everything was ok again! Thinking about it now I suppose it was quite obvious. Is there an emoticon for 'doh' here because sometimes I'm sure people reading my posts must think I'm completely thick!

Sometimes the below tracker often has conflict with USB port or so. And it moves on it's own.

If this is the case, I don't know what to tell you.
I just hope you eventually address your mouse problem.

I see. I am sure you must have identified and implemented a solution for your problem by now. I guess it won't hurt much to purchase a new mouse.

That looks strange when you already cleared the history and scanned for virus threat. How about cleaning the mouse? Or as the other mentioned, last option is to try a different mouse.

This reminds me that FireFox prides itself as a non-profit browser. I wonder if this charitable basis is the reason for the wanting performance of FireFox.

I guess you should seek the services/advice of a trained technician if you do not have a clue as to how to proceed.

Hmmm. I don't have much faith in the so-called technicians. At least those I have dealt with in my vicinity.

To solve the issue, I bought a new mouse. I did watch some tutorial about how to solve this optical mouse problem but it holds the same so I bought a new mouse instead. I bought the cheaper one because the cheaper one last long than the branded ones.

I think it is either a keyboard or mouse, one of those two is too old and probably presses on commands all by itself.
I had same issues with my mouse, it was 'walking' itself on my screen or clicking randomly.
