How fast is your Internet?

Postby thisnthat » 10 Mar 2017, 14:51

Do you have good 'high speed' Internet service? How fast is it? Does your upload speed match your download speed or is it just a fraction of the latter?

Absolutely no, because I am using old plan Since it is a government aided broadband connection the download speed usually gets dead slow during the first few days of the start of the month. I am going to change the plan by this month.

I am using dial-up internet connection. At the moment, both the upload and downloads are 0kb/s. Pathetic. Isn't it?

I currently pay for 150 mbps down and twenty mbps up. My speeds are all over the map, though. It's nice to be able to stream well and download quickly.

This is decent internet speed. You must be paying a lot for it.

It is indeed a super slow internet. I am wondering; suppose you want to download some 1MB file at the moment, would this be possible.

We've gone through 3 ISP providers in as many years because we were frustrated with the previous two. So far, we've been with our current one for just over a year, and I can finally say we're happy with it overall. I don't know what the speed is, though. You may find it's simply the best of a very bad lot hehe

My internet connection is fast as of this writing (4am) and it gets slow during the day when all people in the apartment connect their devices to the router. And the upload and download does not match for sure.

Another reason why your internet is slow during the day is because internet speeds are generally slower during the day. This is the case in my location; Nairobi.

my internet speed is 10GB, which is faster than the usual package but nowadays, most people applied for 30GB package, expensive monthly internet fees.
The speed is very fast, no need to wait for the video files to download, can watch any movies online at fast speed .
However, if you have 4 laptops at home, all running at the same time, the speed of 10Gb divides by 4, so everything slows down like a snail.

This appears to be an illogical or contradictory state of affairs. I mean; why would ISPs maintain slower interest speed during the day, considering that most users are using the internet during daytime?!

@earthsalt... I think in some parts of the world because Internet access remains slow but extortionate, a lot of people can't afford it and tend to take advantage of it when they are in work during the day. This creates a lot of traffic and slows the Internet down considerably during the day compared to at night when not as many people are able to use it.

I see. I thought the ISPs slow down internet speeds during peak hours. I now know it is a matter of high demand and limiting supply of Internet resources.

I have used this site previously. I must say it is a pain to see that my internet speed is close to 0mb/s.

The problem is most of these users are using the intent for what could be said to be non-core/non-important purposes. This represent a classic example of 'tragedy of the commons'.
