Phishing emails

Postby sprite1950 » 23 Oct 2017, 10:04

I have been bothered by these recently but the one I got this morning was kind of worrying. It was a paypal transaction supposedly from a company called Trainline saying they had taken £35.37 from my account. It had a link which said that if I wanted to cancel I should click it. The link took me to a convincing looking paypal page asking for my bank details. Then I realised it was a scam but I can imagine many people fall for this. I changed my password immediately.

I informed paypal and Trainline and they will investigate it but I wonder if these fraudulent activities are as a result of my doing surveys as I did a travel survey recently.

Has anyone else had anything like this as this is the second one I have had recently.

Oh no! Happy to know you were not scammed of your hard-earned money. So many people fall for this type of scam. If you had put in your password, there goes all your money. I do receive these notifications now and then telling me I have funds in my paypal but I just delete it.

I was in a bit of a panic when I first saw it so I started to fill out the form asking for my details then halfway through I thought, hang on a minute .. is this for real? I checked and no money has come out of my paypal or my bank account so it was definitely a scam. I would love to get these people caught.

Oh no Sprite not again! Don't click on links and check the email address of the sender. Copy and paste it and put it in search on google to see what comes up. If it's a scam it may come up as someone will have posted it as a bogus one.

Report it to trainline so they know!

This time I was more careful because it was asking for bank details so I realised. I reported it to Trainline and Paypal who will investigate it. It said it had taken money from my account and then gave me a link to cancel it which took me to a form which asked for bank details. No money was taken from my account.

I am glad to know that they weren't able to scam you. I always delete emails from senders that I don't know since I don't want to open them and get a virus. There are so many different types of scams out there you just never know. I hope they are able to figure something out. We have to stay vigilant here in the world online and offline.

I couldn't help but look at it as I could see it was saying it had taken money from my paypal account. It looked completely genuine as if it was from paypal so I thought the money had been taken from my account but on checking nothing went out. They just wanted me to give out my bank details.

I spoke to paypal on the phone and they said that so many people fill out these forms that scammers send believing it is from them and lose money. It's criminal.

I had something similar happen with my Apple account. I called up customer support and they said nothing was ever charged but it was someone trying to scam me into giving personal information. People are sure getting sneaky these days.

I always check my PayPal emails as they send a notification whenever money is taken out or sent to you. I use a separate email for PayPal to try and make sure there is no crossover. It's hard work at times not to keep above it all.

It was so convincing and I must admit to having a slight panic when I saw it but when I calmed down I started to think more logically and noticed details that didn't quite ring true. It was actually a fake paypal receipt for train tickets but they had written on it 'Dear .. and then my email address' which paypal never do.

I'm quite surprised that googlemail are not blocking these though as they come straight into my primary email box. I always thought using a googlemail address was safer. At least I have been taught something by the last two experiences and I'm more aware of what a scam looks like.

Many financial firm's websites are being cloned these days. I got an email from bank of america saying my account has been blocked. When I clicked on the link it too me to a very good look alike Bank of America website. But the URL i say on my url bar was what gave the prank away. These guys are good, but nothing is perfect. Only the none observant would fall for these scams. I advice anyone to always contact the company via phone before following an steps from an email.

yes I agree that.
Before clicking the link of some suspicious emails, first check the link address if it is the same!
