Desktop or Laptop?

Postby JiLLian » 21 Mar 2018, 14:30

When deciding between purchasing a desktop or a laptop, you'll need to consider a handful of criteria and make a determination that fits your needs the best. The advantage of a desktop is that you can upgrade or replace defective parts. Though desktops are large in size and have a separate monitor, repairing a desktop computer is much easier since most of the hardware can be easily purchased off the shelf of any local computer retail store. For most users, opening a laptop to repair a part of it can be difficult and finding a replacement part often requires calling the computer manufacturer or ordering from another online site. Setting up a desktop takes a bit of extra work though. It also requires more space to set up while a laptop takes less space and don't require you to purchase a separate monitor.

On the other hand, laptops are portable. That's a very good reason to buy one. They also use less electricity. Laptops are built to be easy to use like while you travel or work on the go. They were designed to be taken from place to place, carried in a backpack or laptop carrying case. They are great for on-the-go use.

In the end, the final decision depends on what your needs are. Consider how you are going to use the computer and what you need in terms of portability and performance.

Laptop is convenience and lightweight as well as mobile. Advantages of desktop is that you can do more tasks there and you can do more memory intense apps most likely games and programming.

I prefer using a laptop now because of convenience and durability. I can bring it anywhere even outside our house unlike in PC it should be placed in one area.

I have always been a fan of desktops over laptops. They have more power and are generally more comfortable to use (at least for me). Laptops just cannot hold a candle to desktops when it comes to gaming.

I prefer desktops. What I like in them is that you can upgrade them, easily repair them and they have large screen, keyboard and mouse.

If you stay at home then, yes, desktop as well as for gaming. Laptop is indeed limited to mobility and cannot upgrade it. Desktop lasts longer because the maintenance is there and it's definitely cheaper than repairing damaged laptop.

I prefer a laptop for mobility because a laptop can be brought somewhere locations or places you desire. As a student, mostly I use a laptop for my school homework, and sometimes I bring it to school to present powerpoint presentations.

Well, from a work at home perspective, I think that laptops are good enough. They provide mobility, so you can work from anywhere with internet connection, even from a cafe. I like that idea in the long term, because it allows you to travel and work while on vacation.

I think desktops could be better in exceptional situations.. If you need powerfull hardware and latest technologies.

For example, if you have a gaming channel on youtube, you'll probably be better with a desktop.

I don't like laptops because I can't use them for long term streaming. Desktops can handle more abuse.

I have never used a desktop computer in my life. Lucky for me, when I got old enough to own a computer, it was already the era of laptops. I have seen most of my friends suffer the hardships of desktops though. Laptops do have their many disadvantages, but one major benefit that tramples all others is their portability. You can carry them to where the WiFi connection is strong and what not. As a gamer, I prefer laptops because when it comes to installation of PC games, I can choose to download games from Steam or carry my laptop to a cyber and do the same. With a desktop computer, without a strong internet connection, this is impossible. When it comes to fixing a desktop computer, the work is tedious especially when there's a problem with the CPU. Carrying the whole thing is a burden.
