AIs aren't going to take your job.. they're going to become your boss

Postby Alaskah » 24 Jun 2019, 00:19

In a previous post, it was a discussion about how artificial intelligence will be taking jobs from humans. What if it was your boss?

An insurance company, MetLife, has let AI's help employees on their phone calls with customers. It will display a pop-up chat window on their computer and it will tell them if they are talking to slow/fast, sound tired, etc. There are still human "supervisors" but these AI's now dictate how phone calls are going and gather the statistics for the human supervisor to view.

Is this type of AI useful in your eyes? Or is it another job lost?

Personally, I think this type of AI focuses on efficiency - if you're boring your customers or not explaining well enough, why would they get MetLife insurance? Your manager can't necessarily give you instructions during your phone call. This AI can listen in and give you those instructions so you can fix it promptly, without losing a potential or already existing customer. I think it's a nice algorithm to install in most call centers.

computers have no emotion. So I do not see how they would know something is boring.
Also something boring to one person is not to another.
AI is evil and must be destroyed, if humans are to survive the future.

AIs are more developed than regular robots. They can develop emotions if the programming allows it. There's an app that I made a post about called "Replika" where an AI helps you with your mental health if you want to read more about that.

Boring was also my choice of word - the robot only tells you if your conversing too fast/slow or if you sound tired/not eccentric enough.

I think it depends on how you will make use of this new technology. I am also using AI in my site and in fact, I am earning from this topic being the only topic accepted in my writing site. I believe we need to continuously learn in order to get the most benefit from this technology.

I'm wondering if it would be more beneficial to have the employees trained on how to better relate to the customers. It doesn't seem like a job loss still, unless AI will fully take over the phone calls. Here it seems like they just want to improve the staff while providing a better experience for the customers.

AI seems to be taking over in many areas of the workplace. But I honestly don't think there's any need for panic because technology can and does fail and needs human intervention.

This is my opinion, based on my work experience and the use of technology.

I used to manually write reports. With pen and paper. I remember when my boss bought a word processor to be used by the secretaries in the office. I wasn't a secretary. But I can recognize when an automated tool is going to make my job easier. A lot of people didn't want to learn how to use this new tool. But then they got upset when their performance appraisal says they didn't want to embrace technology which was purchased to improve their job performance.

In the case of AI, there is no point trying to fight the implementation when you see the company owner or your boss or supervisor bring it in to the workplace. You better jump on the bandwagon or you just might find yourself unemployed.

This is the “rub”. In some industries, it is UNFAIR that certain people have been REPLACED when they could have and should have been RETRAINED.

For some folks there is a reason to panic. AI has taken their jobs. And their employer did not give a crap what happened to them! It ain't right. But it happened.

I am already my own boss. And I am already beyond any AI.I am what AI
wishes it could be. But it will never be as great as me. I am worth millions of their
super computers.

I agree. I think we are pretty far away from AI being so advanced that there's almost nothing left for us. There is so much work that needs to be done before it can replace us all in the workforce.

https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a295 ... cast-plot/

Whenever there is an ongoing American show and fans are not sure if it will get renewed or cancelled they will google it but some sites with have AI that automatically writes an articles based on the question if the show will have a new season.

This is not bad article, I must admint. But I think real person writer would not use so many quotes.

Studies say that AI has created more jobs that it took up. But they don't say what kind of jobs it grabbed up and which jobs were created. The poor get poorer as they have no education or skills and the rich get richer by employing the latest technology.
But more than jobs themselves, what would you do if you had AI under to fingers to do everything for you? where would you find your self gratification and satisfaction. I would say AI just doesn't take jobs but it will take away the very purpose of life.
