The first home computers I am aware of came out around 1980, when I bought one of those gems. I can't remember what it was called. It did not even have a hard drive, let alone a floppy, which had not yet been invented. As long as it was turned on it had an electronic memory. You had to write a DOS program first before you could do anything and it only worked with one program at a time. If the power went out, if someone accidentally pulled the plug or if you wanted to work with a different program, you had to start all over from the beginning.
it did not have a monitor. It had a connection to hook up to a regular television screen and you had a choice of one of 8 colors for the text on a black background. Ah, such wonderful advances in technology!
