It will still work fine for many apps and programs for several years. If you don't do anything Advanced, you don't need to change it. Do you know some people still use XP?

People who use XP use it at their own risk because these XP systems have been compromised a couple of years ago throughout India by hackers by ransomwares.Win 7 is safe till the day no threats comes up in it.

They can remove the support all they like, I have the best computer security. Also its great news for owners of pirated windows 7 owners because they do disable updates intentionally because if they did, Windows will force them with a Paywall.

1st, home users don't care. Most of them use pirated windows (with no updates). Even those who have original windows, do not care of those updates. Even so called ransomwares are actually specially programmed tools to detect only that PC from the network who have a specific vulnerability. They do not attack home based Personal PCs.

2nd, Corporates are already under process of getting their PC upgraded. The process is time consuming but getting executed on priority.

3rd, Microsoft is already undertaking a right strategy. How long should outdated technologies be supported? They officially announced that Windows 10 would be the last version. This means that no Windows 11 will exist ever. By ending support for Windows 7, they have now declared that Windows 10 is only supported Operating System and that will continue till eternity. By limiting the scope, you are enhancing focus.

Microsfot will continue support Windows 7 for big corporations. Many ATM-s are still on XP so they still give support. Of course, for some price.

What makes me not want to update to Windows then is the Metro. There is another screen I have to go through which I don't like. I know they did the metro to make it touch screen and apps friendly.

You can disable Metro and set it to classic Desktop view.

You guys can also just get linux on your machine.
I now have windows and linux. I use linux for work.
And windows just for gaming and streaming only.
So I switch back and forth between the to.
The best thing about linux its more secure than windows.
and it runs really fast. Perfect for work and a lot of popular programs
now work in linux.

Currently is more secure since less virus is available for Linux. When Linux get more users, it will be more targets and more viruses will be available. Also, there is many types of Linux so it is harder make virus to attack all Linux distro.

My son likes Linux. A friend of mine recommended Linux. I just have not decided. For me that's a drastic decision. But if I start having lots of problems with Windows 7 I just might make the change. It's good to know it's an alternative.

When my hard drive crashed, I was running Knoppix off of a USB stick for a while (a version of Linux that has a windows-like GUI). It was really easy to use and really fast. You could maybe use it as a stopgap till you get a new version of Windows installed if you find yourself OS-less.

Well you just go to the linux ubuntu site. Make sure it's the real one.
then just download the ISO burn that to a CD or DVD. then you just
the CD in the drive, or you can do this with USB stick as well.
Then turn off the PC. then boot up it should boot from the disc..
then you just follow the steps and you can have both windows and linux.
on the same PC.. i use window for gaming and streaming..
and linux for writing business and surfing.. it's a a lot safer.

You can ask in your shop to remove Windows. I think you should have option buy computer without any OS and later add yours.
