Looks Zoom app have security problems

Postby mrki444 » 07 Apr 2020, 13:54

Now is golden era for streaming apps. Zoom is one of those. Many people use it and from small start up grows into big app holder. But there is bad side to. Some security companys report Zoom as not good app in case of user privacy. Looks Zoom already lost thousands of users emails and images. On smarthphones it ask root privileges. That means it can access entire phone. On Windows it ask permission for user accounts credentials. If they got it, somebody can remote access to your computer.

Do you think Zoom grow to earlier? Do you use Zoom.

I use Zoom recently as my work meetings are now through it. I read it may have security problems and that worries me. I only follow the link to the meeting and as I am not using my email but I don't know if that is enough to be safe.

I read that some people were targeting Zoom's WFH happy hour to stream disturbing and adult videos to the public it's really bad that these trolls are abusing this feature. I think zoom will grow faster because of the lockdown.

I haven't used Zoom before so it is very hard to judge its pros and cons. But I will stay away from it after reading this discussion as there are other collaboration tools online which are at par.

The schools here are using it for remote learning, so we had a family meeting with it the other day and it was a real treat.

We use it but for nothing important or personal.
Also yes people can troll your streams.
but the key is to set up a password for each stream you do.

Cybe, computer safety company, announce how more than 530 000 usernames and passwords from Zoom database are on dark web market. Looks this problems are even bigger than we think.

Use a fresh password for every usage and throw it away as soon as it is over. Our school does that and each student session has a new one.

Indeed, while Zoom has gained popularity, and being used by companies, Educational Institutions, and even private individuals, there have been many security flaws.
Zoom has now told that it would be trying to get these fixed, but has it already got so bad reputation that it will certainly hurt it. Already many Government organizations, educational institutions etc. have already banned it.
They perhaps need to do damage control in a much faster manner.

The standard procedure for the security conscious is to change the password for every connection, but fortunately that is simple to accomplish. In my grandkids school that means every day and each individual student has a different one.

This is excellent reaction but many people don't like change passwords. We see many cases where people have same password for all accounts. I don't think many will change it because of safety.

That is an option of course, but it takes away the right to complain and expect to be heard.

Will it ever get its reputation back again after such a loophole has been discovered and disclosed to the general public? It is not Facebook after all, which still got away after the Cambridge Analytica data scandal.

Looks it will since many more people join. Company stocks rise every day. Looks this problem didn't affect much on users.

My govt cabinet said they avoid it since there is thread issue. Anyway, the public still prefers to use it for online teaching and conference purpose since no audience limit.
