Underwater WIFI?

Postby mrki444 » 15 Jun 2020, 15:02

Although many people only care about what happens above the ground, individuals also think about underwater life.

Although none of the people live underwater the increasing technological advances may one day change that. One of the prerequisites is a WIFI internet connection. Many today cannot imagine life without it, so they would not be under water.

Aqua-Fi is an underwater Internet that sends data via light rays. Wireless underwater Internet would allow divers to communicate in the depths of the sea, and send data to the surface. The speed achieved was 2.2MBps which is weak but so far enough for the researchers. Commercial use requires much higher speeds.

Are we going to move underwater soon?

I think it could be useful in case of the diver being in risk, otherwise, I honestly don't see the need of wifi underwater. are people diving or trying to connect to the internet?!

For me, 2.2 Mbps falls way short for what I do online. At the same time, I don't ever see any situation where I'd ever need to use the internet under water. However, we must commend the technological advances being made here. No doubt in time the experts will be able to build on this and do wonders.

I am not sure if I will be supportive of this one because wifi had been killing sea mammals because they mistake it to sonar.

No but if you diving you need to make selfie and post it. Maybe some live stream to?

Wow this is really amazing to have underwater WiFi. It'll be good if humans can live underwater especially in countries like China and India with huge population density. Though I font know the use for underwater WiFi but its a good innovation

But WIFI and sonar work on different frequency. I don't know how they could replace i with sonar.

This is so interesting for people who have venture underwater. But, we aren't really sure about it's connection because of the pressure underwater. But this sounds so fine.

Pressure don't have big affect on light. Yes, when light goes from rarer in denser material, it changes direction but this can be fixed.

Living underwater sounds really fun and with the underwater Wi-Fi, it's going to be really amazing but 2.2MBps is really low.

True. With that speed you can't stream anything. Even sending bigger and better quality images would be hard. I will not even mention high class videos.

They still mistake it with sonar sadly hence more beached whales and dolphins.

There are plans to build underwater cities so this could be the reason why they want an underwater wifi. Also submarines....

I think Aqua-fi will be useful for marine researchers in conducting their experiments in the ocean. And I don't think the tourist or a diver will use a 2 mbps wifi. They prefer to enjoy the moment than browsing their phones.

And I think aquafi will not affect the communication of whales and dolphins. Aquafi uses laser beams in sending and receiving data, not radio waves.

What if some smaller animal like jellyfish stands on line of laser? Jellyfish are fragile so maybe laser will affect on them.

You can take the picture and if you want to share it in social media you can do that later. Honestly I don't see the need of it.

I don't think the laser can kill the jellyfish immediately. If it does, then the laser might be also dangerous to humans. :eh: :/
