it has something to do with the Suicide of the wrestler Hana Kimura. The Japanese prime minister now wants all Social network accounts to show the person's real name so Cyberbully identities will be public. This is their solution to end cyber bullying in Japan.


Hana's death really stings to me because Ever since 2017, I really want WWE to hire her.

Japan doesn't punish people who criticize the government so the username banning may not be bad. Japanese people had criticized the government with their real names and nothing bad happened to them. The banning of username has something to do with stopping cyberbullying.

Japan really wanted to stop suicides since they have the highest rate of suicide around the world and their population is decreasing. Cyber bullying had becoming severe in Japan.

One social networking site I use already do that. I can understand this move because people seem to get brazen only because they can hide. Some of them are the 'upright' in person but behind the screens they are really something else. This will probably help to cut down on the harassments, you think?

Well, I suppose this is a good measure against cyberbullies. They usually hide under different usernames. This way, they are easily identified if they cyberbully somebody. And I agree, using your real name in social networks in Japan will not be a cause of a problem.

I think people should be more educated to report cyberbulling and not ban fake names. For some things, but not bad, hidden identity is necessary.

I guess the government is taken over by emotions because a celebrity died. Cyber bullying has been severe that even celebrities die.

I don't understand what you mean. Are you saying they will hold real names of all users but only expose names when people become bullies? I don't quite get it but I think they may even require photos to go with the names. I guess it's easy to make up any name but not so easy to make a new face.

In India, whenever we sign up for most of the social media accounts, we have to give our real names, and date of births. Why not tie up Passport/Social Identity Number (Aadhar in India)/PAN (or Tax identification number) of a user signing up.
So that way bullying people can be traced faster?

Plus, how would they even enforce that? Even if they make it a law and fine people for it, how does one guarantee that a real name is used? Not possible regardless of population. Japanese people are wary about social media and they get nervous if even a picture of their face is posted online. They won't mind using social media behind a fake profile picture and name, but they will most likely refuse to provide an personal information.

Let's just see if this law will get passed. I think a greater Idea is a person who cyber bullies will get their identity revealed if they had been harassing someone. It might be realistic for ordinary people but impossible for celebrities who gets thousands of hate.

I absolutely abhor cyberbullying and ANY kind of bullying for that matter, so I commend the Japanese government for even trying to curb it. But like some people here have pointed out, the whole thing is already flawed. I don't get how they can be certain people are using their real names. I think these trolls will find a way around it without breaking a sweat.
