Your laptop's battery performance?

Postby Vinaya » 25 Sep 2015, 01:05

I replaced my laptop battery when the back up was less than 15 minutes. The original battery used to last around 5 hours (when not using media program or internet), however, the replaced battery only lasts two hours.

My laptop is a new one, purchased only 3 months ago and i never checked about the battery performance. I use it once or twice in a week and just for 30 minutes that too for video chatting with my son . Rest of the time i use my desktop . But my two sons and daughter in law are also having laptops and their battery gives very long hours back up and they will enjoy watching a movie or any music related programmes when there is no power.

Yeah, I used to have a laptop and it's maximum battery time dropped to like 20-30 minutes after a few years of everyday usage. When I had to use it somewhere where there wasn't any power to plug into, I would totally dim the screen and kill all the processes to save power. My current laptop can last pretty long, depending what I am doing on it, 1.5 - 2 hours for sure.

I guess that a battery performs for more than 2h for a regular user. Applications that uses CPU/GPU for long times, like video decoding, video games and programming debug may decrease it a lot.

Please remember that keeping your laptop plugged to power for long time degrades battery performance.

I have 2 laptops, and both of 'em battery performs poorly hahahaha It's like an hour in regular use and 30 to 50 minutes playing video, or stuffs like that.

But, it works for me. I only use my laptops at home or at the university and not for long times. Just for searching something or talking with someone.

I always use my laptop with the charger into power outlet, so my battery is always charged and is hardly used as well, with that, it usually can handle what it promises. My battery will last up to two hours without being recharged.

My Lenovo started off at ~8 hours. Probably only about 3-4 now and that's with following recommended techniques to increase battery life. I thought I'd read somewhere that better batteries, which can be charged more times, are on there way but I can't find the article.

My laptops battery lasts about 3 hours. Other than adjusting the screen brightness slightly, I don't do anything else to improve battery life unless I know I need it to last even longer which is rare. I usually use my laptop plugged in at the same place. Occasionally I do use my laptop elsewhere in the house where I have to use the battery but really it is not that often so I don't I worry to much about my battery life.

my battery has been acting weird recently, unplugged my computer cuts off at about 68 percent power from the read out of power left. someone on a post online said a battery could not be reading the correct power levels when it does that.

I do not charge my laptop battery until it totally goes hibernate. If you charge the battery 10 minutes left before shut down, the battery life will shorten. My battery had lasted more than 5 years. Fully charged battery could last 7 hours for small laptops

Wow, your old battery is really good if it can last up to 5 hours! Mine is usually between 2.5-3 hours battery life only. I had to adjust the brightness, too.

I have to leave ours plugged in the charger, the battery will die down quickly if I do not. The reason is , a few years ago, the laptop had a terrible virus and messed up the lap top.

My battery lasts 5 hours, but I learned that I should not leave it plugged in all the time. I use the computer until it goes below 40%, then plug it in to get it back to 100% and unplug it until it drops to 40% again. I surf traffic exchanges every night while I watch TV and I can run unplugged for a couple of nights, then plug it in the next night and have no problems.
