what if someone hacked the account of a dead person

Postby swissheart » 19 Oct 2015, 06:08

last night I was watching a movie and the basic idea is that a girl committed suicide and her facebook account got hacked and the person started contacting her friends in her name. what would you do if this happened to you and you were contacted by someone who is no longer in this world?

That's an eerie thought but I think I would realise it was a hacking attempt after I had got over the shock! I can imagine if someone had lost a person they cared about and really needed to believe there were still out there in some form or other it would seem very real.

I guess at first it would scare the hell out of me. More so if the person in question was a close one. Afterwards it would definitely hit on me that it is a hacking incident

If someone hacked my Facebook Account after I was dead, I probably wouldn't care much. I think it would be cool if they could use it to make a pile of money.

I wouldn't call the Ghosbusters for sure. I would report it to Facebook and to the family of the person who died. The family could simply ask for the account to be closed or deleted.

My dad passed away a couple of years ago. Earlier this year, we all received spam mail from his account. My sister was a bit upset. I just replied and we had a good conversation for a while.

I'm kidding. I just ignored it as it was obviously spam.

I would be surprised by it, obviously. But I would figure it was spam right away and contact Facebook about it and have it corrected. It bothers me that people can get into accounts and even bother to care about doing that.

I know how that can be awkward...
One of my childhood friends died last year by car accident and his girlfriend didn't erase his facebook account... and sometimes she use his account.
I must confess that I don't like it. I know that, for her, could be a way to maintain him alive, in certain way, but I think that's so strange :(
Could we, in the future, are dead in real life and alive in the virtual world?? :)

That is creepy but I know a lot of people do it. Basically, I think they look for dormant accounts and hack it. I think you can report it to the website. I know FB has a reporting system that allows you to report those types of attacks.

The first thing i would do is reply the mail and say "BUT YOU ARE DEAD HOW CAN YOU BE WRITING ME MAIL", THEN SEE IF THE PERSON REPLIES BACK THEY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN COLD SHOULDERS NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO

Won't just mind it cause I knew someone hacked that account. I remember before one of our boss passed away, after his burial were all back to normal work at the office, one day my officemate's cpmpany phone rang and the name appeared was the name of our boss, my officemate was in panic and so afraid and never answer the call, since were all having a company phone in the office we are so afraid that the next ring would be our phone. We laugh at our self knowing that the wife of our boss was the one calling and just trying to check out the office

This already happened to us. A friend who passed away suddenly started changing his profile picture and changing his status on Facebook. That is very creepy and all of us his friends believe that he is doing it from the other side. Little did we know that his wife is aware of his password is apparently the one doing the updates.

I would suppose, I would know it was someone else on the account, I would just report it, I can think of something like this, on voting day here, one year, I was at the voting polls , there is a book you sign up in to verify it is you.. well close by was my grandmothers name on the voting list, it was signed with her name as voting.. but she had been dead for two years.

I pointed it out to the clerk, she said she didn't know what to say, someone signed and voted as my grandmother. I was very upset to see this, how does this even happen, thought it was strange.

This is a very dangerous stunt - hacking a dead person's account is tantamount to necromancy... you are impersonating a dead person. What happens if that dead person would impersonate you? Think about it, waheehee.

a friend of mine told me something similar. her cousin died and her aunt started using his account sending messages and acting like him sometimes, I thought it was weird. if I died I would want my relatives or friend to have my ptc account passwords so they could do them if they wanted or keep posting content in my blog or webcomic

I think I saw this movie and happened in real life. When my sister's friend was dead, few weeks later, her dead friend commented her status and everyone was in fear. Everyone believed it was a ghost, but there were suspicions that his account was hacked.

I do not think that I would be bothered by this unless they were being cruel. I see no point in doing this but many people have nothing better to do. I would report it and forget about the incident. I would expect my dead relatives to contact me in some other way than FB.

Well, I should say sorry for those who have been victimized for a scam if the account of the dead person is used for a business. But if the members of the family has been contacted by that dead person, of course, everyone would be surprised and would take necessary act to inform Facebook admin to disable the said hacked account.

This thought have occurred to me from time to time! So I am taking preventive measure and write down all my accounts and passwords to keep them in a safe place. I told my children that if something happens to me, please get rid of those accounts.

I know two of my online friends were dead, and their accounts are still circulating. Also, their content and photos are being lifted too. It is bad!
