Re: Do You Ever Google Your Name

Postby DreekLass » 29 Feb 2016, 00:26

As far as my real name, I have googled that, and I was very irritated to discover that my address is available to anyone on the internet, which sucks.

I used to do that before and it was funny to see what I have been up to the past years  I don't see much articles I have written since I am a ghostwriter so the articles were not published under my name.

I used sometimes to google my nickname , not my name, especially to see if some articles have disappeared from the Google search, I mean those written on Bubblews.

I have done it several times but net time I am going to do it in incognito widow as suggested by Oldbuddy to see what's in store for me. I am sure with over 10 years on the internet I will find something interesting there.

Not only in Google but also in other search engine, I search for my real name once in a while just to see my relevance. When I have new articles published in e-magazines, I would see it there. At least that reminds me to be a bit active.

If you want to see what is being said about you on forum - if anything at all - go to google and type in: Forum: [your name]

The results that come up should be all forum type results.

You can find out a lot about other people too, by using their name instead of your own.

Nowadays it's easy to find on Google so many things about ourselves or about others. However, I wouldn't spend my time as a ...detective, although it could be funny. :)

I too was very annoyed to find I could bring up my email address, mobile and landline numbers and postal address! Since moving to Botswana though, my address doesn't come up, it's still the old UK showing which fortunately isn't my in-laws'!I hate that you also see snippets of things you've commented on across different sites!

As long as you are satisfied with trading your time for pennies, you probably don't need to learn anything new. Personally I am always in search for as much as I can add to knowledge in any way I can.

I don't do it only in Google. I do it to some other known Internet browsers or search engines to find out if my name, my blogs are on the first pages of those search engines. When I see them, I feel being accomplished and satisfied of what I am doing for I am in the blogging job not for business but for info dissemination, sharing, contributing, and entertaining. I am now in my 5 years in blogging job.

I have searched my name on Google before just to see what would come up. Nothing super exciting came up. I had a few news articles for some of my achievements in school come up, though, which was nice. XD

I did Google my name pretty long time ago just to see the opinions of others. I am not in the habit of doing that I guess I'm just realizing the need why I should start doing so from this post. I'd really like to know my perception from other people's angle.

Yep, it is only available in the UK. It is a UK website that gives away the address of people who live in the UK, which is pretty f***ing annoying. I was talking to someone online for a lot of last year though, and she was from California, and I was able to find out her address and where she lived. So it is doable with other countries, but you just have to be smarter about it.

I try to see and check what might be out there about me. I had a bad experience before, a friend wrote some malicious jokes and so on and dragging my name with it. It took me a couple of months before I heard back from the site admin to take down what was written about me. Now, I am more careful and would do routine checks if needed

An interesting concept.

I'd say its smart to evaluate oneself using your method.

Having no website or blog, I cannot say how I perform this self-evaluation.
