Vathsala I would suggest going with an android phone for the time being..they have way more apps on them than a windows tablet does.

It depends on you, if you want more space, power, freedom and choices then you can go for Window's. If you want more choices and cheaper then go with Android. Most Windows tablet normally comes with an standard USB port which supports external HDD and other's.

Thanks Shun. Your idea is well taken. I will inform my son about this and let him decide and send it to me

I would go for the Android phone over the tablet pc xP
There is more variety on the android phone than on the tablet pc
However, if its for work and personal use, maybe go with the tablet.

Honestly, I am using Android for now. These phones are cheaper and can satisfy what I need from a phone. That is to communicate of course.

Do you already have a PC or similar? If so I would get a medium-sized phone. If you already have a decent phone then get a larger tablet. If you have neither PC nor tablet then get a large phone eg Samsung Note.

Hopefully it does, sometimes Samsung cut off update's for user's depending on region. For example the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is supposedly to get Android 4.2, but it is only available for some countries and not for others.

The android is very good especially if you are up to date.
One thing I dislike is the fact that often crashes.
