1gb (32 bit) or 2gb (64 bit) but really there is more to it than just Ram. An old and slow processor, bad or incompatible drivers or a slow hard drive can cause an OS to feel slow aswell.

I believe Windows 10 uses RAM compression, like Apple's OS does - so the speed of the circuits ("busses") connecting processor and memory systems is also a major factor. In other words - in theory the operating system can squeeze more stuff into less RAM, but it obviously takes more processing power and/or speed...

I think that for general surfing and email etc, a Linux system is a very good (free!) option for older computers.

Windows 10

Postby earthsalt » 26 Feb 2017, 14:09

I have realized that Windows 10 is a huge improvement from Windows 7 that I have been using since two days ago. For example, windows 10 has a highly responsive search bar next to the start button. I have been using this search bar to check up documents, files, etc with much ease.
Cool. Isn't it?

I see. So what does this merging mean to users here? Should we stop posting on this thread?

I have been using Windows 10 for the last 1 year on my old laptop and so far, no issue though its RAM is 2GB. And I do not think Windows 10 affect the functioning of the disk drive.

It means another topic about Windows 10 has been merged into this topic about Windows 10 which means that there is only now 1 topic about Windows 10 however some posts may seem a bit out of place as they came from 2 topics.

I appreciate this straightforward outline of the needed minimum system requirements in terms of hard disk space.

This is a smart process. I would not mind setting aside even 3 hours to complete this update, provided my files remain intact.
