Re: Social Media on students

Postby BelindaMT » 15 Sep 2017, 16:44

Yes it was obviously happening nowadays and we cannot control it for it was a trend nowadays. I think a close monitoring of the parents and guide is needed here so student will not mislead. You mentioned that some students are fond of dating online and that was scary because I heard a lot of dreadful news that a young woman was raped by his blind date whom she met online. Another issue that you brought up about students who work online to earn money well maybe that young fellow is poor so she or he needs to help her or his parents to finance her/his studies. I don't think so that it may affects his/her studies because as a student you still have time to do part time job like online job or any other job.

The increase of social media has a great effect on the student body. The students are indeed distracted from their daily academic activities due to the increase of social media sites.

Anyway, I agree with you. It's so unfortunate but we have to deal with it like that, since we can't force our thoughts on them. Spending much time online even though it can be fun, it has disadvantages for the students.

I am a University student so I'm really immersed in my studies but guess what ! STUDENTS CAN DO BOTH! We can study and be ressourceful enough to make time to sometimes use our phones to chat with out friends or see whats going around the world! And whats so wrong about watching dog videos on Instagram lol
There are people, though, who really are addicted to their social media and their phones! And that is a big problem ! But people will learn with consequences that you just can't spend all your time on social media.

It's good that you already know the bad side of it. At least, you can try to balance it so that it won't affect your studies, some students don't know that.

It depends. I have seen lots of students who can maintain good academic performances in spite of being active to online works. In fact, those are the students that will do extra effort to support their studies. Like what I said, it depends on self discipline if one will let himself be influenced by bad or good effects.

Most students who needs money to sustain themselves while in school don't waste or concentrate more on social media but they plan the time they spend online to hit their target

To an extent yes,but looking at it the other way round, you will agree that social media is also helping the students to fend for themselves too and also get to build connections with individuals of great minds.

@chekdn, thanks for your opinion, I agree with you but I had to generalized because majority of the students are affected only few are making good use of the social media.

I'm actually a college student and yes, I do spend a lot of time on social media, especially on instagram since I have a good amount of followers. But I'm also a pre-med student and my grades are actually great. I'm on here trying to make extra cash, I'm also looking forward to selling clothes soon on depop. It's just a matter of priorities and I've learned how to manage my time since most of it is actually spent in front of books.

It is good that you have found a way to balance this. I think the problem normally arises when one is unable to set priorities like you have understood.

Social media definitely plays a huge role of distraction of students in schools & colleges. I've seen this infront of my own eyes. People who used to top in their results and used to get many awards have stopped topping or getting any awards due to the excessive use of social media. It's alarming, really!

I couldn't agree more students nowadays are so crazy about social media platforms. Millenials are very active using their smartphones to access their social accounts. They're more busy interacting with their friends in online rather studying at school and at home. We can't blame them because it's a trend now and technology is evolving every year.

Everything has a bad side and a good side. It is your problem if you do not see its good side and get involved with bad side. Social media can be a great help to student.

Yea ,i know that but if they have target of making the little they need for sustainance and face their study is better than taking it as full time job

LIke I said earlier, everything has a good and bad side, I see a positive side of social media. The students can interact with the peers, they can even start to learn internet marketing early on.

True. Many students are so much addicted to social media nowadays. Parents should be vigilant in taking care of their children. We cannot trust the young generation anymore. We should check who their friends are and what they've been doing.
