Re: How to stay safe on the Internet?

Postby aecel » 10 Jan 2018, 03:30

I just recently received a text message from an unknown number saying that I have to reply to his email immediately even if didn't receive any. I replied and asked where did he get my number and he never replied back. It's really not safe to give your numbers online because they can hack your accounts.

Today we had a lecture about internet safety. Approach was very bad and nobody didn't take anything as serious.

I think to be safe in the internet is to avoid entering sites that are not really safe for browsing or those that you are suspicious about.

Nowadays password hack isn't easier for a hacker.
Most of the website use bcrypt to protect there user information. So we have to avoid sharing our personal information and bank info in public post. And of course avoid http site.

I second most of the recommendations herein given. It also depends on the sites you visit. I recommend credible sites sometimes with reviews.

Stay safe on Internet...oh dear there are so much to talk about it, it is not only the passwords and sites you visit but also the people you connect with, and this applies to children and adults. Your behavior also can put you at risk but most people don't even recall that, some set up meetings with people they do not have a clue who they are and most of the times this people do not even concern to meet with a stranger in a very public place. Internet is not so different from the real life e live, the measures to keep yourself safe should be the same with the extra measures on the technological level, like those you mentioned (passwords, vpn, firewalls, file sharing, etc)

Long passwords don't mean safe from being account stolen. It must be a combination of different characters and symbols to make it safer. Nowadays, to have more security, a 2FA verification will be the best.

I would highly suggest not to give your personal details when signing up on different sites. Bank account no. Should never be given. And you need to verify a lot of things first

Working sites should not ask for bank account information. That is why we need a payment processor in order to receive our payments. One way to be safe is to sign in on our accounts, especially payment processors such as PayPal directly. We should not open the site using the link attach on the email messages sent to us.

I am always into safety first before anything else. I don't give so much of my personal informations in the online world. And if you are active in social media sites, choose your friends. And finally don't be too trusting in the online world.

The best I prefer is to use an IP changer app when online. Just a glimpse of you phones IP then any site can tell ,who you are? ,where you stay? and worst know all your social media accounts.

Saving different passwords may not help that much since only your browsing cache is enough to reveal all your passwords. The general solution is to use incognito browsing, it is a great security if not perfect.

Only give your personal information if necessary. Like, you have in Paypal account or other bank online and such. Other than that, you will be more careful and don't give personal information to strangers or sites.

Sites in https are more secure to use. That is why whenever I would have to visit a new site I will check first if it is in https and next is still do a research on some of its reviews.

Recently cyber bullying, hacking among other cyber risks are becoming so much often and therefore we have to know the safe ways to avoid becoming victims. Firstly, i would say that it will be safe enough to have genuine antivirus in your devices that protect you from malwares among other attacks. Secondly, you should have always strong passwords to avoid easy cracking from internet hackers. Thirdly, You should always clear your browsing history and cookies after surfing. This will protect you from any saved login credentials that might have been saved by your browser. Lastly, You should always avoid unknown links, posts or images prompting you to open them on internet. With that you are safe on the internet.

You are very correct and even saving details in sites like this you are fully covered from being hacked

I think that we should not post personal information like real name, address email as well as phone numbers. There are a lot of hackers out there and they can easily get into your accounts. If you are in doubt of some websites, do not register and put important information.
