They are so used with tablets and smartphones that they can't use desktop computers and laptops. I know this is a transition to a new era but I just can't imagine jobs being done on touch screen. I will never log in to forumwheel with a tablet or smartphone.

My nephews and nieces can't use the keyboard and mouse. I thought it is being told at school but they can't use it at all. They are so used with touch screen.

Touch screen is not good for typing. It messed up to much. I prefer a PC for working. Phones and tablets I just use for live streaming and gaming live streams. But for my daily work? no way! It's even a pain to type a facebook status on my phone.

It because, they have not really learnt how to use it. Typing with keyboard can be difficult if you have not learnt how to use it

I find this hard to believe... If they know how to use the laptop or desktop PC, surely they've used the keyboard. My teen nephew surely knows how.

Come to my class and you will se in live. Improper seating, hand position, using mouse, left/right/double click. Some students have problems with left click than right click. They do it very slow.

Its not only teens..even adults..I was in a seminar recently and I was surprised at the huge number of people that could not even operate the system. Its an eyesore

If you want test nephew or somebody else, give them simple Training from Windows. Copy paste map, save in different format, rename it, drag and drop.

This is shocking. Do they have their own PC at home? Their lack of skill wouldn't be a surprise for me if some students don't have access to a computer at home and only have the rare opportunity to use it in class or whatnot.

What a waste. I guess I'm out of touch with what teens are like nowadays except for my nephew. Anyway, I'm glad he knows how to use the keyboard and mouse.

I was speaking to a teenager once about technology and suggested to him that he should learn to type, his reply was that he didn't intend to put the time and effort into it because in the future it would be much easier to input text to a computer by speaking to it. Perhaps he is right?

I tried typing an article using my voice. The punctuations and capitalizations are a mess and I have sore throat after because I have to speak loudly in able for Google to understand.

My 14 year old granddaughter can use a keyboard as they have them at school although when she is at home she normally uses a touchscreen or spends her time talking to friends on facetime. She doesn't type as fast I can because she has never been taught to use the correct fingers but she manages quite well.

This is interesting, I have never seen this phenomenon before, people I know can all use keyboards. I don't find this worrying though, I think learning to use a keyboard is not difficult, especially if - thanks to using tablets and phones - they are already aware of where the letters are on the keyboard. If they ever need this skill in the future, they can just take some time to practice it and they will be able to adapt.

Let's be honest kid these days have no skills only gaming skills. Well some do some can use hand written pencils and pens. some can even draw and use keyboards. But most of them are lazy slobs who just talk to their phone. and play mobile games tapping not even using real controls.

Last time I visited the computer lab at school I had a keyboard of which some keys were apparently replaced with other ones. Thankfully all it did was to trigger my "OCD" because I was old enough to type without looking at my fingers. I could imagine how someone else could have gone mad.
Yet, I envy those who are able to type fast with the touchscreen, I suck at it. Desktop computers aren't as easy to carry around like smartphones and tablets.

At least the forced online classes made the kids learn to use laptops, But yeah before pandemic millions of kids cant use keyboard because of their touchscreen affinity.

Yeah it is pretty weird. The good thing though in my area, is that they still have typing and learning how to properly use a computer, as a required item to pass certain grades. 4-5 grades / 5-6 years it is required to learn how to use a keyboard and a computer, if you haven't already learned at home yet. This is because every grade after that in my state, has computer classes and computer lab assignments, up until the upper end of standard schooling.
