I am not a technology freak or a gadget person. So is my mother. Like I have learnt things that I need, my mom has also learnt whatever is required for her survival. She is 60 and uses social media though not so actively like me She is able to check her emails regularly, do net banking, pay her bills online and type for writing her books or thesis and take a print out of same. She has mastered power point presentations as she needs them daily for her lectures. So she is doing as good as me Even I do not use technology beyond this.

Of course, my father bought a smartphone many years ago. He understands Windows as well as my boy (better than me).
My mother is 60 but she has a smartphone of the latest model. She uses Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms.

My parents catched up with the smartphones, but not computers. It's because they don't use it often and phones are the ones needed for communication and other purposes.

Mine are also catching up with smartphones cos they are more acquainted to it, they have very little or non to do with computers now

Yes they have. They learned it very quickly and long time ago. My father use Facebook every day and my mother has two mobiles

My mom doesn’t know how to use her mobile phone. But my dad is up to date with the latest technology. He has a social media account, too

Am glad my mum is getting the hang of it. Thank God for Android phones that are as good as computers. I know she wouldn't use the computer much, but she is very active on whatsup thats amazing.

Lucky you then.. My parents have no interest in technology.. They use old feature phone and watch tv.. They don't even know how to send a message..

My parents, grand parents and all their siblings are all long gone. My oldest uncle on my mother's side and my oldest aunt on my dad's side were both pretty active with computers and email, but none of the rest ever went beyond TV and home phones. Come to think of it, the phone at my grandmother's home was a wall phone with a hand crank to ring the operator, a mouthpiece on the phone itself and the earpiece on a separate cord.

My oldest brother is now the oldest member of both sides of the family tree, including all remaining cousins. All of us are in our 60s and 70s. We all use computers and smart phones, texting instead of calling many times and most are active with various social media connections. I don't think any of us ever touched any of the electronic games or platforms. I have not even had a TV since around 1995, when I first became active on the internet. My only "home phone" is a magicjack connection for VOIP communications but I hardly even use that line anymore.

I suppose for our age bracket we are about as up to date as anyone in our generation.

That depends on how you look at it. My father is happy to use a laptop as well as a tablet and he can more or less navigate a smartphone. However if he has to explore a new app it gets a whole more complicated. He doesn't always grasp the notion of fluidity of interfaces and platforms but when encouraged will give it all a go and after that he's fine.

My mother on the other hand thinks there's a being that lives in the computer and expects reactions that just aren't there and she really struggles with the notion of being in charge when it comes to her devices. She knows how to stream movies on a tablet and can work some of the apps but when asked to explore she'll get very cross.

Both of them are over 70 so they may be forgiven for not following the whole thing. They're still pretty good on the phone though .... hahaha

If my beloved father and mother are alive today, I am sure they would be happy to have their own social media account particularly in Facebook. Anyway, my wife and I are already in our late 60s. My wife becomes well-versed in updating her Facebook account. She always posts the recent school activities of her granddaughter, Inday sophie who she takes care of for sophie's mother, our daughter is working abroad. Aside from that, she also posts her newly blooming orchids.

No my parents are still struggling.. The thing is they never practise.. When some work comes up, they show interest to learn and when the work is over, they don't look at the phone..!! So, I am having a hard time teaching them how to use an android phone!
