Re: Youtube vs TV

Well, Youtube has the unlimited options to choose from different channels to watch and TV is not much. While TV is good for local news and local programs and youtube doesn't do live streaming of such.

I don't know we can do it. How to set-up on this?

The easy way is to get a Roku device and it has YouTube on the menu.

I watch TV so I can multitask with making money online from my laptop.

I love youtube, to relax, but I often get caught up in it, and before I know it Ive been there an hour watching videos, and usually I end up watching videos that had nothing to do with the original videos I started with

Right before I retire for bed, I watch 30 minutes catching up with videos in my subscriptions

I don't watch tv, I rather watch youtube because I can choose and access the information I want anytime. Besides I am even considering getting a raspberry pi to access tv without having to pay for it, they are cheap to get.

There is a reason they are so cheap. I would rather have a used (or refurbished) computer. Mine has a HDMI port so I plug it right into mt TV set.

Genius....
I prefer Youtube any day. You have the freedom to choose what you intend to watch and you can stop it at the moment you dislike the content. The problem is however the tendency to get distracted especially for a person like me whose concentration can be limited. I will always look for the next thing before i am done watching a single clip.

My friend as far I remember you worked with computers right? I have a couple of old laptops at home and you gave me a nice idea, I think I will use one of them for that tv thing, do you have experience with it? Any advice?

You and my husband agree. He prefers YouTube because he says the stuff he can find on YT, we won't ever see on American TV. I don't disagree with him about that, but even if all that varied content was not available, we don't have much choice. Somehow our digital box got broken! :? So we can't watch local TV programs anyway. And forget about cable TV. Nobody in the house wants to pay for it! When I visit my daughter's place I can watch cable. But now that I've gotten so used to YouTube, I can't really find anything on local or cable TV that I want to watch. :)

Yes, I have a lot of experience with it, but the field is so wide we would need to narrow it down first.

Are your old laptops functioning now and what operating systems do they run.
Do they have HDMI ports or are you willing to add one?
Do you have have RCA jacks on your TV or an VGA in port?
Is your plan to run Kodi and are you prepared for the frustration it comes with?
Another option is to pick up a device to cast your laptop screen on to the TV like Chromecast

Does that give you a start for your research?

Actually it's hard for me to separate the two, I have a smart TV and one of the channels is YouTube. Even my older TV with a Roku device has YouTube as one of the channels.

Youtube anyday unlimited content plus the freedom to choose what you want to watch. What could possibly surpass that.

The only major limitation is that you cannot access various shows, movies and such.
