Re: Debate: Is Facebook an invasion of privacy?

I believe it is definitely an invasion of privacy. I made sure I logout after every use because Facebook can monitor your online activities. Unfortunately just about everything is chipping away at our privacy these days. I try not to even go on Facebook very often anymore.

windows_geek wrote:Facebook is not an invasion to privacy. definitely this depends on the user itself. If the user just thinks about his/her own privacy and not letting private things out then its cool.

Fair points...I guess it does depend on your settings

NO it is not. You have control to whatever you post. You are responsible, if you do not want the internet to see it then don't post it.

I don't think it is invading our privacy. We can choose whatever we post publicly and privately. I don't think they have the time to check each account to invade our privacy. They are only notified if one flagged a particular page or picture and they really act so fast in checking the said content.

I think they are more on invading like if you are famous or have great FB followers. But I believe when you are just ordinary Facebook users they will not give a care to your account. I believe so. ;)

I am using Facebook to connect with my circle particularly those residing in distant places. If it is a breach of my privacy then so be it because I am posting photos for the world to see. And for those people who are thinking about their privacy... quit Facebook and quit internet altogether.

How do you feel about Facebook? Do you feel it is helpful, connecting you, but also knows...too much?

I find it can easily find friends I haven't talked to in years, find people from the areas I used to live in even though I've never added them to my profile or talked about them..It sort of scares me. What are your thoughts? :)

nothing is going to be excessive nor destructive to one's life IF he/she knows how to handle his/her activity in the social media. Seriously? why blame the platform when all it do was according to your actions. You post your pictures, when you get offended by other users, don't blame Facebook. It's you who posted it. If you get scammed or somebody rob you money, don't blame to social media either, hackers and scammers won't get your info unless you posted it, voluntarily.

Everything has its own positive and negative side. Just like Facebook. It connects millions of people worldwide. It gives the technology of keeping in touch to those whose far away from us. At the same time, Facebook is been used in scamming people, blackmails, bullying and other more. It all takes us into one lesson, let's be responsible on what we post in social media, not just on Facebook because once posted, we're putting our lives and vital information at risk because everything on internet was not own by a single person. It was owned and shared to all users around the globe. So be responsible before posting anything.

I think Facebook is a wonderful tool and it has allowed me to connect with many people from my long ago. It certainly has its place in the way we communicate today. The privacy thing is a pain because there's a lot of things passed by the user because most are not going to read the fine print. The best we can do is review our privacy settings regularly and not share too much.

It is scary and also astonishing at the same time that we are able to find anyone and everyone on fb. Easy networking never comes without it's risk. Solely depends on individual on how safely we protect and use our account

For me I find Facebook one best way to reunite people, friends or family living in different parts of the world. I don't care much about the info they could get about me.

I just use facebook for online marketing. It's helpful to earn, but when it comes to safety, it's not. What I do is to set my pictures which only my friends can see. I also hate facebook because I have many friends there who love to flaunt their newly buy stuff, or flaunting that they are eating in expensive restaurant, flaunting their branded gadgets and etc. They are very annoying on my newsfeed. I would love to unfriend them, but they can help to gain traffic in my links somehow.

it depends on how you use facebook...i have hundreds of people in my friend list whom i don't know but have added as we belong to same organization. and chat requests from them are indeed annoying at times, so i have switched off the chat request option

Facebook, like other corporations, have a pretty shady reputation when it comes to privacy. Unfortunately, we live in a world right now that respects our right to privacy less and less. I do use Facebook simply because it allows me to keep in touch with family members and friends whom I don't see often. However, I restrict my privacy so that only my friends can see things I post and information about me. I am not convinced that Facebook is responsible with how it handles data about customers, however, so I don't put much information about myself there in the first place.
