I thought that was just a very elaborate joke? Like, God, Garfield? That would be too funny

And the 'G' makes perfect sense now. Inspired by Garfield and not just Google. Leave it to you Fergus - always reliable in providing the background info.

@mrki444 I saw something else on this. They will stop accepting new Chrome Apps this coming March.

When the internet was still quite nascent we had such cute looking simplified UI based email services like Garfield.com.Then the powerful browsers came up and changed the game.

Aside from Garfield, Britney Spears use to have her own Email service and her fans registered to it. Had it continued, maybe she is a billionaire by now.

Now every UI is complicated. Hidden menu, tablet optimization, mobile phone optimization. Sites are much heavier than before. In that time, when Internet was much slower, now days sites would be very slow loading.

Garfield owned Gmail? Oh I think I am missing out of something here. What's this connection between Garfield and Gmail?

G as in Garfield. Garfield.com use to have an email service

This is very unbelievable, I used to think the G actually meant Google hence Google Mail. Though it make sense because I have quite never seen anywhere in the G-Mail website written Google Mail. I can't imagine I have been making a wrong sense of this all this long!!
