Right now there is a change between japanese games and american games. A lot of american games intentionally make their main characters ugly while japanese games make more attractive characters

I knew they always made some changes in movies like remove or add some scenes and the likes but i wasn't aware they also made such huge changes in games as well for the Japanese market.
