You can upgrade your PC whenever you want. As this guy said it is better to buy a new one..

It really depends on how outdated the system is as a whole. You might be better off starting from scratch and building an entirely new system. You'll need to make sure that everything is compatible. The good thing about it is if you're patient, you can shop around and pick things up one at a time, instead of having to lay out a bunch of cash at once. If you have a laptop that you can use in the mean time, I'd work on a new build for your PC.

if the system is more than 6 years old, its time to buy, ou build yourself a new one!
RAM for instance, the more old (DDR2, DDR1) the more expensive and less RAM you'll get...

and if you're getting a new videocard, a brand new might not be compatible with your motherboard
but it really depends on the age of it... if its like 3 years, go ahead and give it a little upgrade ^^

It depends on your motherboard, but it should be possible. You claim to have a lot of corrupted files, have you tried a clean install?

It sounds like it would be complicated going by the answers above. I might just try it to see if it can be done but not as a very reliable computer in case something like that doesn't work out. I have no idea though behind the technical things of using a computer. Good luck with it.

Building or upgrading a computer is a bit like putting together a semi-complicated puzzle. Most things are keyed so that they cannot possibly go in the wrong way. There are only a few precautions you need to keep in mind (e.g. static electricity), but you can watch videos on YouTube that go through all of those such as those from LinusTechTips.

Instead of upgrading such computer, I recommend you to buy a new one :D
