I can go ahead re-write the title of this thread: "What is the benefit of the like button"? Isn't it to express your positive feeling towards a photo, a image or a thought? I'm sure it isn't for providing help for kids in Africa or that one kid that has a problem with his leg.
Why shouldn't a negative feeling/different opinion be allowed as well?
Just remember one thing: just because the feature is available, it doesn't mean you have to use it.
