I currently own a HP Pavilion dv8, but ideally I'd have a pc at home and a laptop for occasional situations. Pc is much better if you desire to have a powerhouse at home. However you can't compare it with the portability of a laptop.

laptop or desktop?

Postby theMARKER » 07 Jun 2016, 03:17

What type of computer are you using? Which one do you prefer -- a laptop or a desktop? and may i know why?

I personally like using a desktop because i feel more comfortable with it but there are some cases that i would prefer a laptop. For example, sometimes i want to work on something away from home and clearly i can't carry my personal computer around.

I'm planning to buy a new computer and i'm trying to decide which type.

A desktop costs less and lasts longer, but the laptop is easier to run in front of the TV at night. The computer I use most is a refurbished Dell I bought on Ebay for just over $100 and installed Linux on it to avoid Internet spyware and virus problems.

I like laptop for the convenient of mobility! I can let it sit on the desk to work or carry it around to where I want to sit. If the weather is nice, I take my laptop outside to sit and work with it on my deck. If I go somewhere, I also take it with me on the road.

A laptop is my choice computer.

Reasons: low power consumption,. light weight, and off, course portability.

Do you mean Linux is immune to spyware and viruses? How so? Kindly elaborate.

Desktop always I find they last longer even though they take up more room. But I also am a gamer and after spending a year gaming on my laptop I hated it. My laptop is more my passive earner now anyways for running videos and stuff while I do other things on my desktop.

i am using a laptop.
I used to have a desktop but hubby gave my LED monitor to my girl whose laptop screen went blank.
So, I had to use a second hand laptop, Asus brand
I like it, very convenient to move around and small size. Yes it is quick and stable

I have a laptop and have grown so accustomed to using it, I don't know any different. Out of habit, I prefer my laptop. Nothing specific, nothing technical.

I have both a desktop and a laptop. I like my laptop more because I can do my work from the couch and do certain things while I watch tv. It is also a little newer than my desktop so it runs faster. I also do not have a proper desk for my desktop so it makes it hard to use. My kids use the desktop more than me so it works out fine in the end.

I have a laptop and I recently bought a little Android tablet. I love having something that's portable. I often take my laptop outside and use it on the deck where I can "tap into" some free wifi. It's nice when you don't have to subscribe to and pay for internet service.

I don't think anything is immune, but it's rare enough that in about the last 5 years I have never had a problem and I use Linux online every day. The best part is since I only use it for my online activities, if anything were to happen I would just reinstall it and be back online in minutes. I have so little data on it, I keep it backed up online with Dropbox.

What I really prefer is my ipad, but if I don't have it or if some sites require tasks that must be done in a computer I prefer a laptop, I use MacBook.

I'm just using a Dell laptop at the moment, though I'm aiming to get a Macbook in a month or so. I'll also probably get a desktop, as it's an easier way to set up 2 or 3 screens. Extra screens are useful for photo editing, and for flight simulation! :D

I was a multiple screen user for many years, until I discovered the convenience of using my 32" 1080P TV as a monitor and now I like it even better. Not to mention it's handy to throw up Netflix on if I get bored.
