Commenting gets you exposure and it's a great feeling for the site owner too. It is indeed a good habit to comment where genuinely appropriate.

Yep. They certainly get you exposure, and from my understanding lets Google know to rank your article higher in the search results. Comments are a crucial part of ranking well, if you have a blog, I think.

Is there any particular reason why you don't comment? I mean, I know a lot of the time we just don't have anything to add, but a lot of the time there are questions one needs to ask and such.

If I am really impressed, I don't mind leaving a comment, and I have done many times before. Actually I spent less time to write comments.

Leaving comments is interacting, which is the key to the vault for Internet Marketers. Of course if you would rather stick to earning pennies that is your choice.

This is probably why I failed so miserably when it came to internet marketing. I am not very good at interacting with others in a persuasive way.

While I prefer places that just let you put your name and url without logging into anything, I don't mind the ones that ask me to log in via facebook or G+ but I HATE the ones that ask me to sign in to a wordpress account. I don't blog on wordpress, and have not for a long time. I don't use my wordpress account so I'm hardly ever logged into it.

I'm likely to leave without commenting if it asks me to do that.

Persuasion is old school. As soon as someone perceives you are trying to persuade them to do something, your chances go out the window. All you should be trying to do is foster relationships and cultivate them so they know, like and trust you GENUINELY.

This is why I am so bad at getting referrals. I always feel like I should be upfront to stop people thinking that they are being manipulated in any way. I find it hard to be subtle in persuading people to perform an internet marketing action, or even just to sign up under me.

You just need a paradigm shift. You don't need to be subtle to befriend someone and that is the only Internet Marketing action I need. The rest will take care of itself.

I mean, I wouldn't say that I am terrible at getting referrals. I have done it before, but ended up getting into an argument with many of them, defending that the site I was working on was not a scam, and trying to make them see why I wanted them to sign up under me. What worked best was setting up a page addressing most points, and leaving my link at the bottom.

As long as that works for you, just wash. rinse and repeat until you meet your goal. It's really that simple.

I tried to do it again with a different site, but that was less successful because the site, its tasks, and the features had changed. You still manage to bag a few though.

Sometimes when I am too tired to write what I normally do is to read the comments. Some comments will better throw light on the issues discussed by the article more intelligently. I just enjoy reading comments sometimes when I am not in the mood to comment.

I find that just getting involved is often enough to dislodge a few comments, so you are on the right path.

There are times when something about the article was not clear, and the discussion within the comments will usually clear things up to, so you don't have to comment to ask those questions yourself. Of course, then you have the trolls that you should not engage with under any circumstance.

You are missing out on a lot of the benefit articles can provide. It's interaction that makes the Internet such a powerful tool over passively reading a magazine or a book.

I have to agree. While some articles are great, I tend to learn more via the comments, and especially when interacting with the people making comments. There is always more to learn.

Its really odd to sign up just for leaving a comment. But I do leave comments when I feel what I have read is useful and informative.
