Re: How long does a laptop last in general?

There are two reasons people abandon their laptops, some serious issue, such as connectors to the screen destroyed or specifications are no longer good enough for latest software. Most laptops face some big issue within 4-5 years at least once.

I agree, mine has been running for years with no battery at all, I just plug it in.

You guys are lucky because here in my country there is no guarantee there will be uninterrupted power supply for 2 hours continually. It could go on for days but you never know when the power outage will happen.

* * LOL. I don't know how long desktops or laptops last. But I can tell you that I have gone through a number of them. My children say I abuse them. But I say: First of all, the devices were not brand new. They were second hand. How do I know they weren't already on their "last leg" when I got them?? :? :?:

My laptop last for 6 to 10 years, I always keep my computers in a good condition, I am very careful about it. I normally don't use my laptop's battery, I try to save it for the time when I am away from home.

Depends on what brand laptop you bought, as well as the overall quality of the machine itself. Updates also play a factor. For example, majority laptops that were bought under the Window 7 OS have now been upgrading to 10. Not everyone has had a smooth experience upgrading their entire operating system. Because of this update, a laptop that could've lasted longer is now experiencing system (and in some cases hardware) malfunctioning.

Overall maintenance (or lack off) plays a major part in the longevity of the laptop too. From what I notice, average PC users who usually neglect on and offline maintenance tend to buy new laptops every 2-4 years. Those that know how to treat a machine stretch into 5-8 years.

I would say about 3 to 4 years in general. But it depends on the brand and laptop specs. A high end laptop may last longer if its more advanced and built to function more than the cheaper laptops.

When I bought my second hand laptop, it was already used for 2 years. Now I had been using my laptop for the past 8 years, consider it 10 years old. Acer laptop isn't good but as long as you don't watch videos, it can last longer.

I'm sure about the actual number of years but surely, it would depend on some factors like laptop brand and usability etc.

I would say about five years or so depending on what you are doing with it. I have a gaming laptop so I am always playing video games and then adding more games as well as writing. I have had my Alienware for about three years or so now and it is still running fast as ever and in good shape. I think that as long as you take care of your laptop then you should get some good years out of it. I would say longer than five if needed. Sometimes the battery goes before the laptop itself, so getting a new battery is better before getting a new laptop unless you have a really old one and want to change it. :D

I think that average is 5-10 years not 2-3 years, lol that looks so low amount of laptop life, for that lifetime laptop is too expensive ,better then use smartphone only.

I think a good laptop can last up to four or five years. My current laptop is about 2 years and the last one before that was also about two years. I changes it because it dropped and crashed.

yes laptop brands is one of the factors that will induce the durability. If the spare parts used are branded ones, I am sure the laptop could last longer

I think this depends on what you're using the laptop for. If you're just using it for school or work for example it will last for a long time, for example about 10 years. If you're using it for games or something like that it will probably be about 5 years. After this the battery of the laptop for example could be in really bad shape.
