Yes, it is very hard to use!
Has no graphic interface is all done through commands. The windows 3.11 was based on DOS ... It was interesting, but a great mystery to me.   I forgot always commands, wore only the most basic commands.

For me it was Windows XP, that was when windows was very simplistic and easy to use, hated (almost) all of the windows operating systems that came after that.

Man, that's so cool. I'm imagining how aweseome owning a computer that time. My first encounter was Windows XP and reading comments here seems like I missed so many great experiences :o

I can't explain to you, but in that time was so different! Have a computer was an awesome thing (and in that time we don't have internet). You can try windows 3.11 in a virtual machine if you want, but you will laugh...

Win 98. Not on my own computer though. I was in high school then. I can't explain the excitement I felt for interacting with computers.

My first operating system was Digital Research CP/M, since DOS and Windows were not invented yet.

http://www.digitalresearch.biz/CPM.HTM

I ran it with the pre-internet dial up modem at 30 text characters a second and no graphics (except pictures formed by alphanumeric characters called ASCII Art), which I used to run a Bulletin Board System for the Zenith User Group, which was the pre-cursor to the Internet. It was dial up access for text messages and VERY SLOW.

According to the official press release from Microsoft it is for "experience".

The XP name is short for "experience," symbolizing the rich and extended user experiences Windows and Office can offer by embracing Web services that span a broad range of devices.
