I can't understand why they did that. If they ban Facebook and other social media like that, it's understandable. But Whatsapp and Viber? I wonder what they have to do with any of the security breakouts.

Really, we never had nothing like that happen here, but I think people would still go on anyway, I don't think there is a way to stop them completely.

It's strange that they banned so much of it to begin with. I understand it to an extent, but I just don't get it. Security is of course an issue, but banning social media can cut off a lot of connections. I'm glad at least some bans got lifted.

These days any kind of ban on any internet site is just limited to people who are not tech savy and don't know how to get by pass security restrictions. There were many who were still using Facebook etc by using proxies etc. Although ban on social media sites make people suffer and damage the connectivity between people but sometimes it is good take such action if it's about security and peace.

Apps like whatsapp , Viber can do as much damage as sites like Facebook etc. Last year, we saw some riots and attack on North East people of our country living in some southern part of the nation. Apps like Whatsapp , Viber etc. were mainly responsible for spreading the fire of this riots and make the sitaution worse.

It's these types of situations in other countries that always remind me of how lucky I am to live where I do. Because to my mind; it doesn't matter which way you look at it, it's blatantly oppressive of these regimes to ban the use of social media platform or even monitor and censor people's use of them. I don't agree with it at all. I do however, agree with closely monitoring the accounts of people who are flagged up by systems as posing potential risk to national security and nabbing through such means.

It would be a good idea for social media sites to comply with the rules and regulations of the country they want to be in. This would help them to have better standing in the country that they would like to offer services. China has a strict policy.

Since, now a days terrorist threat is going on everywhere, they must have put a ban on social sites so that people should not share any info . Whatsapp is the easy means of communication with messages, videos and photos, they must have thought that any spy can easily take photos of the sensitive matters and pass on to the enemies

Wow, that is crazy. I'm glad nothing like that happens here. Even if it did as others said I don't think most people would obey.

The practice of banning social media usage is common among dictatorial governments.

However, citizens sometimes find a way to go around such restrictions.

The world wide web is virtually impossible to beat in today's era.

I would like to look at it in a different way, and that is if they were banned by the government, it is for security reasons or whatever the reason is of the country. If I am upset about not being able to use these social media sites, I would ask myself what did I do before I have all of these social media sites in my life?

If this was happened in the US though, you would see many protests on the march to the White house. Social media sites have become an addiction for many :)

I am sure they had their reasons for banning. It must be tough though on those relying mainly on social media for bread and butter. I am glad some are back, atleast viber and whatsaap has other options.
